I am looking at buying a 7" touch screen dvd, gps unit but I don't want to break the bank. Which one is the best bang for the buck? I would like to keep it under 500. Your thoughts?

It will be very hard to find one new for that price. 7" and GPS = $$$

I figured I am paying $30/month for my iPhone's data plan and just got rid of my GPS. Head units with GPS take too long to start up and I just got annoyed with it.

Look for a factory refurbished unit off of Amazon or Cruthfield. The come with some type of warranty and you can save a few hundred buck by not paying for that new headunit smell.
