Rugged Maniac is tomorrow for me. Goofy little 5k event but it should be a lot of fun.

Anything to tide me over until the mudder in November!

Yeah, it's growing slowly now that they upped the capacity. We will be going Saturday. We started the team early so I'm assuming we will get a pretty good start time.

Did the Rock Solid Mud Run over the weekend. 10 miles with some pretty serious obstacles at the same location as the Tri-State Tough Mudder and the World's Toughest Mudder competitions.

Hell of a time out there and I'm just starting to walk normal again today. With only around 1000 people entered, most of whom only did the 5 miles course, there was very little waiting at the obstacles. I was kind of counting on those breaks as I'd never run more than 5 miles at a clip. Made it, but it'll take another day or two to recover.

The platform jump into the lake was fun this time around. In November I'm sure that water will have a totally different effect on me!

How has everyone's training been going?

 I have a half coming up in October and then the Mudder in November. Can't imagine how brutal that full marathon will be only a month after the half. Have you run one before?

I was shocked by how much my legs hurt. On both legs simultaneously I had the ball of muscle just above the knee cramp up just 1/4 mile from the finish line. Squatted down to stretch the quads but it didn't help. I stood there for 5 minutes with a clear view of the finish line how I'd make it there! I was eventually able to start walking and then slowly jogging again to get to the finish. Made it, but that was clearly my limit that day.

More training mileage and better hydration is in my future.

4 months will be plenty of time to get your distance up. Lines at the obstacles help recovery during the race so don't sweat it too much!

Sounds good, congrats on finishing! And remember, if you want to avoid the cold, come down and do the florida event, itll be perfect weather for a long run- and no frigid water

nope. never ran a full marathon before... as an event. i'm sure i ran that far during my military training... but it's different.

i'm so not a runner. i have the wrong build for it. my mom is all into running and she said i should do one with her just to do it... i said what the hell, why not. i already regret it. training sucks ass haha

I'm not a runner either. Im doing the mudder just for the challange.

My concern is the wait for the obsticles- good in that it gives you an opportunity to cool down, but bad for me- I have bad knees and I've found that when I stop and start again, it bothers me. Best for me to only stop running when I'm done. So it'll be intersting to see how that affects me...

yeah, the wait is a good and bad thing. for us, we had to keep moving otherwise we could have died. literally. for our mudder they even shut down some of the water obstacles because of the life threatening condictions... but that was after we passed. there was no way in hell i was going to skip any obstacle.

it's def a challenge, but not as bad as you expect. just have fun, thats really what it's about. i cant wait to do it again

^This. Check videos online and you'll notice the piles of ice they dump into the water to level the playing field.

Stumbled on this late last week:

    http://www.civilianmilitarycombine.com/

Nearest event to me is less than a month away. Not sure if I'll be in shape in time but I'm gonna give it 2 weeks before I decide whether or not to sign up. The lifting competition mixed with the course is an interesting twist.

Anybody else hear of it before?
