Anyone running the Tough Mudder - Northeast #2 at Mount Snow in a couple weeks?

I've got a team of 16 people signed up and ready to go. We got team shirts made up and everything. :D

Dick, you had to post that up 2 days before I run?!?! Ignorance is bliss!!

And that obstacle looks pretty hellish... We run late, hopefully the ice is melted so we're only in 35 degree water

    nothing yet!
Id take that one over the one we did. We had to crawl though a pit covered with barbwire, filled with water and ice. Had the same board in the middle so you had to go under. It was a complete shock to your system. Good luck and have a blast!

lol you'll have no luck. They keep dumping in ice throughout the day.

When you get to it, DO NOT THINK. Jump in and deal with it when you come out the other side. Jump as close to the center board as possible so you just have to duck under and haul ass out. Keeps you from wading through half of the dumpster.

No matter what, that one sucks. There's simply no training for it.

    GOOD LUCK!!

Yikes... It's supposed to be 85 and sunny for the event so at least I'll warm up quick on the other side!

Thanks for the tip on jumping close to the board. Makes sense but I can't say I would have thought if it day of in middle of getting my ass kicked. I'll be doing as little thinking as possible!

I see you didn't wear gloves, do you wish you had or was it not that bad? I wasn't going to wear any but my team keeps trying to convince me otherwise.

Gloves will just keep your hands cold and wet. Never had a problem going without gloves, but I've done a bit of rock climbing over the years and prefer to directly feel what I'm grabbing.

If I wore anything, the only gloves I would consider using would be waterskiing gloves. They're formed to assist grip and are designed to remain tacky when wet.

I imagine that Jacuzzi the company wasn't happy with their name being used. Possible trademark issue?

Hell yeah with the 35 degrees! Somehow they always manage to find a day in the 30s now matter when or where they hold one of these events.

This was me after the 2nd lake crossing at my first TM. It's a still photo but you can still see my teeth chattering. It was November here in NJ.

I did a 10-mile Rock Solid Mud Run last summer and the water made it downright pleasant. Of course, they didn't dump ice into their obstacles.

Got a Rugged Maniac tomorrow. Silly little 5k event that's just a blast. In and out of the thing in under 45 minutes, filthy, summertime, and there's beer. I used it as an intro to mud runs last year and had so much fun I came back for more. :)

That's what I should have done, a shorter mud run as an introduction. Tomorrow is going to be a shit show for me. I've never run a 10 mile race, I've never done an adventure race or any race with obstacles for that matter. Same can be said for my team also. We're just hoping to survive. We're all in pretty good overall physical condition but I have a feeling we're underprepared for some of the obstacles.

You'll do fine. The key is simple -- don't quit. :)

I made it through my first TM without any problems, and after hearing the stories I had a bunch of friends that wanted to do it. One guy signed up early and decided a week before the event that he wasn't ready for it. I told him that I'd stick with him through the entire course regardless of how slow or fast he could go.

It took forever (6 hours!) but he plugged away and tried every obstacle. Where he couldn't hang on, he took his falls and dealt with the cold and wet. On the walls, we gathered 4-5 people to help him over. We got him up Everest. He dove into the electric eel without a moment's hesitation.

He never stopped. He never complained. He smiled as he ran through Electroshock Therapy because it was the finale of something he thought he was incapable of completing.

You and your buddies will do great out there!!

We finished! Started with 16, ended with 15 so only one drop out. It was a hell of an event. The toughest part was the terrain, the obstacles weren't bad at all in my opinion. They really use the mountain to their advantage!

On another note, I will say that the Tough Mudder staff was incredibly unprepared in the medical response department. A participant keeled over and one of the members from my team and another participant performed CPR for 8 minutes! The first responders on an ATV had only a basic First Aid kit (no AED) and had no idea what do to (they showed up at about 6 minutes in). At this point, the guy had not been breathing for quite a while. At 8 minutes, another first aid UTV showed up with an AED. They were able to jump start his heart and the guy came through and even knew where he was. I heard he was air lifted and was doing ok. In short, the Tough Mudder staff did not seem to be even close to prepared for this type of event and if it weren't for the participants on the course, the guy would have died for sure.

Otherwise, it was fun and we all had a great time! Most of us are already talking about doing it again next year.
