Did my first obstacle course race a couple weeks ago, Spartan Sprint at Blue Mountain, PA. Very tough in terms of cardio especially since we went from the base to the summit essentially 1 and a half times. Scheduled to do the Rock Solid Mud Run with my g/f in 2 weeks, a Spartan Super on Sept. 8th, and finishing the year with the tough mudder in Englishtown in October. Pushing myself more in the gym cardio wise to train for the super, I was not ready for the amount of stamina needed. On the bright side I made all obstacles aside from the javelin throw.

Holy shit! It's great that the guy pulled through but I agree that a quicker response would have been appropriate.

Most of the folks on and around the course are volunteers, but I would have expected the folks on the ATVs to be more trained.

Nice! The Rock Solid Mud Run is a fun event and an excellent primer for the Mudder in October. They cover a lot of the same ground even though they use different obstacles.

I'll be doing both the Saturday and Sunday Mudders at Englishtown in October. Also signed up for a few other events that I'm expecting to kick my ass well ahead of that weekend. I'm running the Seaside Heights half marathon the weekend before, in September I'm doing my first triathlon, and I've got a few other smaller events coming up to get me in shape for those.

Should be a great second half of the year, and congrats on completing the Spartan Sprint!

Yeah, it was pretty crazy and certainly a scary moment.

Most of my team had a great time and are talking about doing it again next year. I think it's in August at Mt. Snow next year.

We also found out that one of the girls on our team qualified for the Toughest Mudder. She's nuts, she had a tri-athelon the day after the mudder!

Thanks! Yeah I figured it would be a good event for my g/f to try as her first obstacle race. After she saw me finish my spartan she wanted in. You seem like you do alot of cardio/running. Unfortunately that's where I limit myself because I hate distance running, I'd rather be in the gym. I am trying to force myself to run more to train for these but it isn't easy :p Good luck on your half and tri!

I signed up for my first Tough Mudder a couple months ago. I will be taking part in the Seattle one at the end of September. my training for it so far has been splitting wood, playing with my dogs (especially the pit bulls), going to work (construction), and beer curls. i am an electrician, pyromaniac, and enjoy a good mental and physical challenge.

so far, i am a team of one, but that won't stop me.

You won't feel like a team of one while you're on the course. The camaraderie among total strangers is unlike any other event I've seen. Good luck!!

I qualified. I'm currently shocked, nervous, excited, scared, and...registered.

Hell yeah! Home turf for me. WTM will be my 4th mudder at that location, plus 3 other mud runs I've done there. I used to live 15 minutes from the site. Now I'm about 40 minutes away -- still really convenient.

I've got that nervous anticipation thing going on now. Kinda tingly. Hard to concentrate. Glad I went for a run last night after my leg workout.

I think I'm gonna create a thread in the "Body Builds" section to document the progress, get input from folks, and keep me honest and motivated through the process. Lots of preparation to fit into the schedule...

so i was planning on going on a nice hike to help me train for tough mudder on Sept 1, but it turns out my little brother was in the hospital starting then for about 10 days, so i spent time with him instead of preparing for TM. this weekend was booked up for me already, as is next weekend so i can't do a whole lot there. weekend after that is TM Seattle, and time to shine. only real training can happen after work now, when i am already starting to get tired. should be interesting to see how well i do on race day.
