    Maybe. But the Op hasn’t given any concrete details or pics. And it isn’t Friday, yet.

    I have towed a 86 4Runner with my with my 22Re 5 Speed 4x4 pick up on a Tow dolly only about 400 miles round trip.It was a very long slow Day completely avoiding the interstates .

    U- haul is very strict they might decline the rental.

    Plan your stops remember you can not back up with a tow dolly .

    I would never want to go on a trip that far 400 miles a day will be a long day close to 2500 miles or so depending from just where. I used St.Paul to Orlando for my mileage

    It could be done if you have no other recourse .

    A larger Truck will make a very big difference.

    I would put my wife in the car being towed and tell her to hit the brakes when she sees my brake lights. Voila, trailer brakes.

    Very close, but one more like this (but not this exact one);

    https://www.hemmings.com/auction/1969-chrysler-300-425005

    Two things;
    First, yeah, I've already decided not to but please keep posting the same warnings. Because hey, I might have some beers and get adventurous, right?
    Second, fix it and drive it home? It's been sitting in storage for 30 years. This makes it great for keeping the body nice but is absolute garbage for anything rubber and the gas in the system. I'm not a youtuber posting yet another "Derp! Abandoned car! Will it run and drive across the country?!" video. I'm gonna work on it in my comfy garage.

    Thanks for the sanity checks though, I guess I need them :thumbsup:

    cool, have fun with it!
    But yeah,,, that is a legit land-yacht, you need a wonton (one ton) to tow it.

    I have so far, only towed our 20' single axle travel trailer with my Tacoma. We moved from northern California to southeast Kentucky in August 2022, and towed the trailer 2500 miles across highway 40, for the most part.

    It really slammed my fuel MPG, I had been right at 18 MPG (according to Fuelly app) up until our move, and never towing anything. Per Fuelly, I got between 9.0 - 10.0 MPG over the 2500 mile move, never exceeding 60 - 65 MPH while towing the trailer. I spent probably 60% of the time in 4th gear (I have a 6 speed manual), some in 5th gear, and never even tried to pull in 6th.

    Our trailer weighs ~3900#'s dry, and we probably had 200 - 300 pounds of dishes, clothes, pots/pans/canned goods in the trailer during the move. The weight and the many mountains along highway 40, took a toll on fuel economy, but as you can see from the pictures, I am pretty certain the single largest MPG killer was wind resistance due to the significant height difference between my truck and the trailer. Towing a car on a car dolly as your situation would be, you will have far less wind resistance, though the weight may be fairly similar.

    Not for nothing I have no idea how the rates might have climbed for auto transport might be something to explore .
    Till you get done it might even come in cheaper unless money is not factored into the adventure.

    Good luck no matter how it plays out.

    Pulled a f150 with my 4 cylinder Tacoma 60 miles. It did fine. There’s plenty of tow dollys that have brakes. You won’t be able to safely go faster than 60 mph so keep that in mind. Most people on this forum are petrified at even the thought of towing and think they need a F-350 to tow 2500 pounds. It’s amusing.

    I wouldn't dolly that car behind any truck, especially if it's been in storage. Find a low trailer and transport it with all four off the ground.

    Distance doesn’t matter. If the truck can safely tow X amount of weight 20 miles, what stops it from towing it 2000 miles?

    This is nothing, try the RV forums. Over there there are some that think you need a Kenworth to pull anything bigger than a utility trailer. That said when pulling a big load nobody's ever said I wish this truck was smaller. I had a 1 ton dually that was a joy to drive when loaded to its GVWR. Unloaded it was a rough riding, gas sucking pig that was a pain in the ass to drive, park, load, unload or any other thing you drive a car for. If I were in the OP's shoes I hire a transport company to move the car. Not because the Taco couldn't do it, but because all that driving to and from would take too much of my time.

    :yes: Awesome road car, be sure to post some pictures when you get it!

    If you have never driven one you might be surprised just how well it handles, obviously not a sports car but quite competent for what it is.

    Well, yes and no...

    The OP doesn't want to buy a tow dolly he wants to rent one, presumably for a one way rental from one of the 3 national companies.

    U-Haul will rent a dolly to tow behind your vehicle, however their dolly doesn't have brakes and also his truck doesn't meet their criteria for towing that Chrysler and the car is over the weight rating of the dolly as well.
    If he was honest with them they wouldn't rent him the dolly.

    Budget and Penske dollies may have brakes but they only rent them with one of their trucks.

    Also the instructions for all dollies state "lock the steering wheel in the straight ahead position" - that feature wasn't on Chrysler cars until the 1970 model year.
