Nice! I just need to drill the hole, mounted with just one now with spacer. Im glad I went this route. How did the hole drilling go? I gave away my drillpress so will free hand.

I took it to a machine shop and had them drill it as it must be perfectly straight or it could create an issue under pressure when towing or pulling.

This tells me all I need to know about the product. Don't add spacers to increase the bending moment on the mounting point...

Not to mention you guys drilling extra holes in the aluminum, please don't use these for actual recovery. They are bolted to a cantilevered section of frame that supports your radiator.

Asking the real question here. These don't appear any better than the little welded loop they replace, using the same connection. Definitely flat tow/tie-down vs recovery points.

Agreed! I don't plan on every really using them, even the pathetic factory don't seem great to me. I think these with both bolts and without spacers would be just as good as factory. If I did crazy off road stuff, like back in the Jeep days I would just put a winch and bumper on. These just look really cool IMHO on my SR5. My goal is to have a fairly loaded SR5 that balances on and off road and looks subtly better than stock. Slightly bigger more aggressive tires, blacked out badges, air damn removed, cool tow hooks and maybe wheel spacers for a little poke and I'm good. OH, and maybe some KC lights with pink covers like we did in the late 80s.

I also like how the bolt holes are rebated on this cheap Amazon towhook, maybe to save you from the (extreme!) expense of having to purchase longer bolts rather than re-use the stock ones. Yes, let's make the aluminum beneath the bolt heads as thin or thinner than the base of the OEM steel towhooks.

Under any serious deflection loads, it's likely to tear out there. These towhooks are for display purposes only.

Looks like these are going to be the first thing to hit when approaching an obstacle and have effectively decreased your approach angle.

I ordered OEM front hooks online for ~$130. Wife picked them up for me today.

These are nice and they bolt right up on the 4th gen. I sketched up a drawing because I'm probably going to make some from 7075 AL(to save a little weight) if we have some scraps at work.

Here's a pic next to the one that came on my '25 TRD OR(right).

Do these not just bolt up? Looks like they would fit any 4G Tacoma or 6G 4Runner.

Yes, these do just bolt up. In fact I bolted them on a little bit ago. I should have clarified that my interest in making them put of AL is to save a little weight.

Edit: I've added a note to my previous post to help prevent further confusion.

But only one bolt lines up without drilling.

The red one. Both holes do not line up with the Tacoma. I put them on my Tacoma after re-drilling the second hole so it lines up. You could mount them with only one bolt but you could never use them to tow. They would be for appearance only.

upload_2025-7-26_15-2-54.jpg These are mine on my 2024 Pro. They look awesome! I got the matching spray paint on Amazon. I never off-road so I am not concerned about them hitting the ground. About the only 4 wheeling I do is at the local shopping mall.

So then why the recovery points?

It's your taco and you are making the payments so I'm glad you got what you wanted and it worked out. Good luck on the awesome looking Tacoma.

However...... On a different tangent, I'm a little upset that these exist and / or don't come with a substantial warning about safety. IMHO the product (not your truck) represents an artificial / empty fire extinguisher for people that love the LOOK of having safety equipment without having actual safety equipment. One day you might need that fire extinguisher and people around you, not knowing better, will grab it and be disappointed when it's empty.

So as long as you take responsibility and don't let people use it as a tow / recovery point and become a 2lb missile when / if a bolt snaps, then game on and enjoy it!

Have you seen the mounting point? It's thin steel and some tiny welds... Toyota has no actual rating for The front toe hooks.. The welds are going to break before any cheap hook does.

Is the 3.1lbs weight savings (for the pair) really worth it?

I don't mean to be argumentative but the .35" wide and near full length MIG welds on both side of my OEM factory installed hooks are far from tiny.
