Tow hooks

I have a trd sport tacoma. The from has no real tow hook from what I read. The Manuel shows that if needed to be tow there is a small tow hook however it doesn't look to be that good. How many of you switched it out for a actual tow hook for recoveries? If so what did you use?

 

I've got a TRD that came with the hook, but the bolts snapped off when I went to remove it. I was going to fab up a piece that would hold a shackle; one of these days I need to drill out the holes and finish that project. I've got an ARB with winch on the front so it just hasn't been a priority (translation- I forgot about it).

 

I just purchased a tow hook. I have yet to install it though.

This is what I have, got it free with a skid plate I got from them too. it makes the shackle hang thru the passenger side opening of the skid.

I bought a TRD Off-road tow hook for $50 on TW. I want to be able to put a recovery strap loop on it and go - no shackles, no hooks on tow straps.

 

I think camelback toyota. They are a vendor on this site. You might be able to get a cheap one at a junk yard. I think it was $99.

I recommend getting a factory TRD OFF ROAD tow hook. They are beefy as hell and straps don't easily fall off them. They pop up for for sale around here pretty often. I don't like the idea of shackles in that location. They have their place, but the fewer parts the better.
