I'm fairly new here but sat watching threads for a while before I bought my 09 tacoma. However, I honestly don't tow anything, but in the future I figure I will if I can ever pay off my student loans. That said I wasn't looking for the tow package when I bought my truck, my family is a Toyota family and I was going to branch out from the 4runner trend we had going - but when I sat down reading some threads about towing boats etc it made me wonder.....do you have a trailer hitch even if you don't have the towing package? I honestly can not remember if my truck has the tow package on it or not and since it's raining I was trying to save myself getting wet to look for the transmission cooler. If the trailer hitch comes on all 09's regardless of purchasing the tow package I'll just wait for the rain to end

Nope that was my first thought but since I had all of the dealership paperwork with the numbers on it I just tossed the window sticker. Hindsight is definitely 20/20 here.

I believe that only the trd's come with the tow package alreadt installed, unless it was an add on at the time of purchase. The stock SR5's don't come with the tow package.

Well stopped raining so I went out and popped the hood...looks to be three radiators up front - one small black one ( tranny cooler I'm assuming ) and I read elsewhere that there is also an oil cooler so I'm guessing that would be in front of the standard radiator. Looks like I have the towing package :) thanks for helping a lazy bum out.

The oil cooler is between the oil filter and the oil filter mount. It should have two coolant hoses attached to it.

The small black radiator is your transmission fluid cooler. The next 'radiator' is the A/C condenser. The next radiator is the radiator.

It's all in my head at the moment...
I may have misinterpreted the question and don't understand all the technical searching high and low but.....if the truck has a tow package, wouldn't the receiver in the back be a give away seeing the truck is brand new and there is no chance that a previous owner just slapped one on there to do his/her/their towing?

Get on a creeper and slide under the length of the truck starting at the front and wheel your way to the back. That thing you just smashed your head on at the end of the trip, that will let you know that you have the tow package.

Also mentioned in previous posts but wasn't a concrete determination was that if you had a "pink" fan clutch, it was synonymous with the factory tow package, It sits between the motor and the fan blade. Take a peek.

It would have been a dead give away ;) I just didn't want to assume that non tow package trucks also had receivers. But from what the dealership told me ( if the salesman knew what he was talking about ) the tow package apparently is what gives you the receiver.

I'll check at lunch and see if I have that pink fan clutch....you've made me curious.

I bought mine from Hoover Toyota....went to Reinhardt down in montgomery because I went to college with the owners son but they have the underbody coating and it added another thousand onto the price. Don't drive at the beach enough to justify it.

If you go to the service department of your Tacoma, they can look up the truck's equipment with the VIN number from the Toyota data base. The dealer threw out my window sticker and a couple of years later I had them print out the shipped equipment list.
