If anyone has done this you know these are some serious inclines. The truck is performing great. I only managed about 12mpg on the last leg from Thunder Bay to Kenora. The hottest I saw the torque converter get was 228 for a few seconds after a long slow pull up a long gravel hill after a construction stop. I’ve yet to see any need for an auxiliary transmission cooler. I’m towing in S4 and not using cruise goes a long way to reducing gear jumping. If you are ever in Thunder Bay, Sleeping Giant is an awesome campground.

Took that drive many times from Ottawa to Winnipeg and back but never towed “over the top” (yet). Scenery is eye popping for sure. Stayed overnight at Sleeping Giant once in 1967. It’s now on my updated bucket list for a few days with our 179.

Thanks for the positive towing report. Living in Winnipeg now and sometimes wondered if my truck would be up to “above the lake” operation as all my towing so far has been on prairie with a similar weighted trailer.

You wouldn’t have any issue. Of course I wouldn’t try it with 6000lbs but mine is no problem at all. It’s actually surprising how much power the truck has up in the higher rpm’s. I had to pass a couple times and it got up and out of the way no problem.

I’m in Kenora now and I think I’m the only person here who isn’t from Manitoba.

Just curious what trailer are you towing and what’s the weight loaded?

What campground you in? Anicinabe and Rushing River are popular with displaced ‘Tobans. Once you get into MB you’ll understand why we’re all there. Also, the roads west of the ON border are nothing to write home about.

RPOD 171. About 3400 loaded as per my guess. Great match for the truck.
