If you're just looking for an excuse to buy a bigger truck, do it, get a Tundra. The Tundra won't even notice a 5K pound trailer. But the Taco CAN do it, but it will be working a LOT harder and your mileage will suffer. You will probably end up with better overall mileage with the Tundra too, since it doesn't have to work nearly as hard to tow it.

There are plenty of folks who tow more than that just fine. Only thing is most of them only do it once in a while, which is fine. Do that routinely and the lifespan of your tranny/engine will be a lot shorter. If the taco is paid for, do like I'm planning, buy the tundra (or whatever) and turn your taco into a trail truck...

I have both a Taco and a Tundra I have a 5700 lb travel trailer that the Tundra pulls just fine.I do notice it back there.I have tow pkg and an equalizer hitch. There is NO WAY that I would even consider pulling this with my Tacoma. The Tundra gets 9.5 max on mpg,I like running the highways at 65-67 mph.Hills are not an issue as I have gone into Arizona New Mexico and all thru the Texas Hill Country. The Tacoma is a great vehicle but for towing 4k plus trailers, that is not something I would want to do on a regular basis.Get a bigger truck.
