Towing 5600lbs?

i am thinking about buying a 2020 Tacoma off road at. I have a tractor and trailer I have weighed at 5600 lbs. the only time I need to tow it is when the tractor needs service which is every 2-3 years. I have to tow it 75 miles to dealer and back on mainly flat terrain with a few rolling hills. The trailer has brakes. Can I get by using the Tacoma to do this??

Thanks for the quick replies!! I know I’ll have to get a brake controller. I assume I’ll need a wdh? Any other suggestions on what I will need.

 

Ride-rite air bags, sumo springs, or something of the like wouldn't hurt to have.

 

You will need time to go slow because you are really near the truck's limit. Ect on, s-mode for the transmission, brake controller, and wdh.

Trailer brakes for sure. Also get out a scale and make sure you get the tongue weight right, too little can literally put you in a ditch.

And just remember everything takes longer when you're towing. If you're patient and keep your foot out of it, your gas milage won't be horrible.

 

I carried my wife's car on a uhaul trailer at 6100lbs (combined). It did fine. I am not even sure that you need a wdh, but it wouldn't hurt. the uhauls can't use them and my truck squatted some.

 

ECT changes transmission shift points so the truck revs a little higher before it shifts since engine power is more available at high rpms. You want more power for the heavy load and an added benefit is a little engine braking.

Yep I’ve towed that kind of weight a fair amount of times without air bags or a WDH, but wouldn’t mind having those things. I do have the tsb springs with an add a leaf though so that helps. Just be smart about how you load the trailer and where the weights sitting.
