My spec says 6400 pound tow rated.

I bought a 8.5x16x7 enclosed that has a dry weight of 3100 pounds.

While traveling interstate, I have to run 4th gear (manual trans) to maintain 70 mph.

5th I can touch on flats, but any hill and it's back to 4th.

Turning 3100rpm constantly and literal wide open throttle

How would anyone pull 6400 pounds with this truck? Use 3rd gear constantly?

Even with my 14 foot open trailer and Rzr it requires either slowing down or ripping it in 4th and 5th

I'd probably get a bigger truck if I needed to tow that amount on a regular basis.

I'm used to diesels where if the truck is rated to 18000 pounds or whatever number, it tows that without requiring full throttle at all times.

I do realize the wind load is higher with the enclosed but wow

It's a mid size truck with a NA V6, I'm not sure what you were expecting.

The torque curve between a diesel and a NA v6 are literally the exact opposite in this case as well.

Now wait, you are saying by expecting a certain level of performance at half the rated spec I'm asking too much??

    I love the truck.

Not here to start a war, simply asking you guys that tow what your experience has been.

Again I state, if half the rated spec is expecting to much, perhaps I was misinformed

    I think you are.

Ah I misread your post, you aren't towing 6400 lbs. Something seems off, it shouldn't have a ton of problems with 3100 lbs, but I think your expectations may be skewed due to using full sized diesels to tow in the past.

That makes no sense. If I buy anything, I expect exactly what was described. Is that not how things are done?

It meets my needs just fine towing a fully loaded duck boat.

Well it can tow 6400 lbs, its just not going to tow it like a diesel, again the torque curves are the opposite of one another....With the enclosed trailer you also have to deal with shit aerodynamics as well.

    I'm glad that it does.

Point stands. I'm guessing the boat doesnt weigh over say, 1500 pounds?

fully loaded duck boat and trailer, probably low 2000's

Also more aerodynamic than a shoe box.

    Let's try this another way.

Am I misusing or worse abusing the truck by using WOT for miles and miles?

To explain who I am, I expect things to do what they say.

I expect every product to perform as proclaimed. I don't look at my stuff, I use it. I maintain it to the nth degree, but it gets used.

The engine will be fine; the MT trucks come with the 4.30 axle gears right? The engine is going to rev up and there's not much to do other than tow at 60 MPH.

Cool. What fuel mileage do you see when duck boating down the highway?

On my last trip I averaged 8.5, with hovering around 6.0mpg

    That's just awesome I'd say!

Do I detect a bit of blindness in your post?

Are you in some way sponsored or endorsed by Toyota?
