No, I think you sound like someone who doesn't understand how this engine works and maybe didn't do much research before buying the truck, as evidenced by comparing it to towing with a diesel. You should read this.

If it does, then it should do what the rating says.

It's a V6, it's not going to get good mileage towing. The only thing to do is to tow at 60 MPH rather than at 70 MPH.

You've said yourself it tows the weight you are towing, as evidenced by you going 60 or 70 miles per hour while towing.....

 

And does running 10mph under the posted limit, where prevailing traffic is 10 to 15 over (creating a 25mph delta) work in your AO?

being 6th is an overdrive mostly to get 'better' fuel milage 4th would be expected to be revved out to build speed or accelerate and 5th would be your cruising flat gear and yes foot to the floor because as stated it ain't a diesel. running at 3100rpm shouldn't wreck anything other than worse fuel consumption.

Do you have anything in the trailer? Is your truck stock or modified in some way?

 

Go in the slow lane and let everyone pass you. Or buy a 2500/3500 again.
