    Awwww he's big mad....
I did mention that, that's a pretty big logical leap to think that means someone told you to research the entire Sedan lineup of Toyota....

I'd expect a factor of safety built in (margin)

    So yes, I sure would.

I would also know that someone somewhere smarter than me tested the assembly and rated it.

The simple answer to fix your expectation is first regearing 4.88 or 5.29, then consider OVtune. It really is that simple. What you report is just how the truck is, occasional load here and there. No magic.

As to the book posting, I stand 100% corrected.

I have indeed expected the truck to tow above 65mph.

And yes I do know that everything changes at max weight.

    Reread the thread.

I am towing less than half the max weight, but it dramatically influences the truck. I still say that's not 100 percent the way it should be

Well seems like you should be able to do it then. Maybe there is something wrong but from what I hear the Tacoma has never been a super great towing truck. Can it tow 6400 pounds? Sure it can but will it like it? No it won't. I've towed about 3000 pounds with my 1st gen and it did it but it wasn't a great time doing it. My camper is only 1200 pounds and that is better but I imagine if I maxed out I wouldn't really like it and neither would the truck. There is a whole towing thread on here. Maybe check it out there and see what you can find out. No point in getting into a pissing match with other members. You will just get banned.

There's nothing much to do about changing how the truck feels while towing except deeper gears. Other than that you have to live with it or buy a different truck.

i wouldnt go 70 with 3100lbs attached to the back.... ill admit i dont tow often and have yet to tow with my tacoma since my activitys dont involve trailers anymore but when i did with lower powered vehicles it was maybe 2k tops and i was in the right lane doing 55 because that was all i could do and it had a 5000lb towing capacity.

you're not expected to do the speed limit when you are almost double your weight and it can be dangerous for everyone involved

    Here's a dumb question I've always wondered

If you mash the throttle down to 100 percent and the engine doesnt rev higher (due to load)

And you back off to 75 percent and maintain rpm and speed, does the engine use less fuel at 75 percent or 100 percent. Output is the same, does the computer remain at that constant fuel input?

It sounds like "acceptable performance" to you is a subjective higher standard. Toyota has given the truck a tow rating per SAE J2807 standards. There are no promises of how it will feel, MPG when towing, acceleration, etc... but whether it passes the test.

I think that we were all confused as to what you were expecting... When towing anything, you have to expect added resistance. It seems as if you were expecting the truck to drive with minimal added resistance towing a trailer; a very non-aerodynamic trailer at that. So yes, the truck will most definitely have to work harder... The issue was that your expectations were set way too high. That's on you, not the truck.

I tow my boat, 3100 lbs. Does just fine. My truck is a 6 speed manual transmission like yours. I will tow down the freeway at 65 mph in 5th mostly. Hit a big hill and drop to 4th. Bigger hill and let her sing in 3rd.
