Toyota could have put a better towing engine into the 3G, but when they designed it their marketing surveys showed towing was 22nd on the list of attributes 3G owners wanted. True story.

I've towed ~3700lbs with the '12 4.0 6MT Taco, a flat-face 8' wide travel trailer. Performance was nothing to brag about, but adequate. Floored in 2nd-3rd to pass the slowest 18-wheelers on I-70 passes, Ike and Vail.

The 3.5 I imagine is similar, just adequate, keeping it floored in lower gears.

2G and 3G are multi-purpose trucks. Yeah, you'll struggle hauling a TT but when you unhook at your destination they're small and nimble enough to tackle almost any offroad situation.

Well said sir! I'd just like to add I hope the Hybrid sedan owners stay the F away from our trucks. They might give their input on the next design and then you will see tacomas at the Tesla charging station. Gross.

I'm part of the Toyota focus group and suggested they put the snorkel on every new PRO. You're welcome.

Bottom of tire is still full, and I meant on the ride back it was fully fluided

I ran a rock across the valve stem and bled it out unfortunately.

Just more cash and back at it

@TuTacos2Go I’m not fully understanding your concerns. I too came from a GMC 2500 diesel. I mainly bought my truck and sold the diesel because I no longer had a work vehicle and had sold my 23’ trailer. I wanted a small truck that got decent mileage and I could go wheeling with on the weekends. Where I am confused is your decision to buy another small Toyota knowing that you would be towing on a regular basis. Also towing half or 3/4 of the trucks max towing capacity. If I knew that was one of the primary reasons for purchasing the truck I am fairly sure I would have purchased a 1/2 ton truck at minimum. Your Tacoma can tow up to 6400 lbs MAX. Essentially the vehicle can maintain a slow speed in a tall gear and the hitch won’t be dragging. However, it won’t be pretty. For me I would be happy with 70 mph at 3100 rpm. Maybe that’s just me. Legally most speed laws require you to drive 55 mph where I live when towing on the frwy. So 70 mph would be a bonus. I tow my 18’ fishing boat that comes in around 3,300 lbs loaded down. I keep the truck in sport mode and primarily use 4th gear for hills and then go back to regular drive when on flats. It is not that you are expecting too much from your truck towing a 3100 lb trailer. It’s just that your expectations on how comfortably it will tow under load are more aligned with a 1/2 ton truck or better. Also you’ve had a second gen, I assume well before your third gen right? Are you implying that you second gen towed comfortably at speed under a similar load?

I still own the 2nd gen. It's a 4 cyl manual and wont tow a sick whore off a barstool.

    I also own a Cummins.

I dont expect the truck to tow like a diesel. I expect it to tow half its rated capacity with a little gusto. That's all

I tow a 21' Bay Boat that must be at least 3500 lbs. (probably more) loaded with '17 4WD. It does fairly well I think. Just doesn't get much gas mileage...but it never has. Stopping with inertia brakes on trailer works well also.

I was looking at something like this as well, I have a Can-am atv and thought about having some room for camping in the front of the trailer. The 8.5 wide sticking out past the sides of our trucks is going to be an anchor.

I see but again we are still talking about towing. These light trucks were designed for light truck use, dump runs, moving, and light towing. If the expectation is to tow half the max with “gusto” why not buy the 1/2 ton? I’m sure I am not telling you anything new but you could have easily purchased a half ton with an 18mpg rating on Frwy for a similar price to your Tacoma. When I researched my truck I never found a single post saying “tows like a beast.” Most post read “tows my light trailer and or boat just fine.” I understand the destain your feeling towards your truck’s towing characteristics. However, it has more to do with your lack of experience towing with a light duty truck and maybe not enough research imo. And don’t get me wrong I understand your frustration, but having experience with both when towing I knew what to expect. I got a buddy who has a Chevy Colorado with the v6 and he thinks his tows more comfortably than mine. However they both still tow like light duty trucks. There are options to make your truck tow with more gusto to help offset the factory’s efforts for better mpg. AAL, re gearing, and the ov tune to name a few

Don't worry, the 4runner will likely get the 3.5 in the next few years.
