I dont believe the trailer comes with the Surge break but I will check with Uhaul to verify. Overall it looks like everyone is agreeing that I should install the extra trans cooler. I'll have to look around Pooler/Savannah GA to see who can install since the dealership probably will overprice the install unless someone else has any better options/advice??

    Fucking look it up
Yea so he's only got D and then 3 so I'd say keep it in D then 3 is too low for highway speeds

So that kind of changes everything... I'm not sure if I really would recommend using a 4 cylinder to tow a car, even if it is just on a car dolly (little to no tongue weight). The car is just barely going to be in recommended towing limits and even then I don't think anything over 55 or up any significant hill is going to be possible.

I agree. It's doable, but it isn't going to be fun. That 2.7 isn't exactly an athlete in a regular cab. It's got to make a double cab into a dog...then with over 3000 lbs behind it I can't even imagine how tough it will be to maintain speed or accelerate.

OK, a couple pieces of practical advice.

    1. You "just purchased" your 2015. Make sure it's broken in before you start the towing trip. Put at least 500 miles on it before beginning your towing trip, even if it means you have to take some "sunday drives" to get the mileage up.

    2. Car + Dolly is at the limit of what I'd tow (and what many states allow) as far as towing without trailer brakes. So always allow a good long stopping distance, especially on downhill, downgrade.

    3. Are you also planning on loading the bed/truck with stuff and people? If the truck's filled with a thousand pounds, you're now *way* over your GCVWR (gross combined vehicle weight rating) and I'd start considering alternative transportation arrangements...

One more thing about what gear to use - folks may be overthinking this.

Simply start with it in D. Then, if the transmission starts "hunting" - that is, shifting back and forth between D & 3, then click it into 3 and leave it there.

Thanks for the help everyone. Ultimately the reason I am trying to do this is to move my wife and she does not want to drive her vehicle but we may just end up having to do that since car transport from GA to AZ is pretty pricey and the army doesn't transport vehicles unless your going overseas. I do love my new Tacoma and it can at least pull a small skid boat or anything else within that range but I definitely don't want to blow my tranny attempting this move.
