    Hi,
Has anyone pulled a dump trailer with a '98 Tacoma 4whd(2.7) man. trans.?
    I am thinking about purchasing a 6x10 2 axle dump w/ brakes, gvw 8000lb.
I know the listed towing weight is 3500lbs. If I picked up 1 1/2 tons of gravel + trailer weight it would be around 4000lbs.

You may want to check the dry weight on that trailer. Any decent dual axle dump trailer I have seen weighs about 2000lbs minimum(maybe 2500lbs min?). With 3000 lbs of gravel in it, that is well over the Tacoma rating.

I know there are folks that have done it, but I just don’t see a Tacoma being built for that type of hauling, especially a 4cyl.

Do you have a frame mounted tow hitch or are you talking bumper ball?

Definitely wouldn't try it with a ball on the bumper.

Hills will probably be really tough.

You need a friend with a 1/2 ton and an empty gas tank. Offer to fill him up for the tow. Save your clutch.

Thanks to all for the good advice. I'll skip the trailer. I have picked up gravel in the bed of the truck; probably well over the rating. I think I had close to 1500 lbs once. I do have new leaf springs and shocks in the rear.

How much would it cost to get the gravel delivered?

That would be the best option except the driveway is only 6' wide. They'd have to dump it in the street and I'd wheelbarrow it back to the patio. I need about 1.5 cubic yds.
1/2" gravel which probably weighs 1.5 tons.
2 trips w/ 3/4 ton in the bed. Probably not great for the truck but I have done it, driving slowly and carefully.

If you get it delivered, assuming they have a dump bed in a 3/4 or 1 ton truck maybe they can just back all the way in and drive forward dumping it the entire length of the driveway.

You were going to buy a dump trailer do you have that much stone to haul or other goodies ??

I am guessing a electric over hydraulic dump just run the electric to the trailer.

Do you have a real driveway or a path through the yard ?

Sometimes we gotta do what gets the job done

The dump trailer behind my Tundra was a bit much.

See about renting a sub-compact tractor or smaller skid steer.

I guess if it's a bit much for a Tundra, it will be a lot much for a '98 Tacoma with the original clutch(115,000mi)
