Its odd to me to see people refer to uhaul as the experts. The ones I've dealt with here im fairly amazed they get their shoes on the right feet with only 3 tries.

Alright, it is installed... Since the ash tray never got used that was taken out and the holes for the trailer brake mount fit almost perfectly so its screwed in using the factory holes. Since I usually keep my hand around the shifter area it is a perfect reach to hit the trailer brakes if needed. I just wanted it to look semi-stock :)

Now I have to the equipment to tow safely, just now need to read and watch youtube videos to make sure I am being safe on the road.

ECT power on, OD off. Probably wanna check for a tranny cooler also. Mine is 03 TRD and did not have one nor did it have the upgraded fan clutch but does have tow package. I purchased the Hayden which is identical to the TRD cooler for like $50 from rock auto.

Thanks for this summary! One question about the proportionals. How do they monitor the brake pedal? On my truck it seems like the first few inches of travel don't do much but further in the brakes are strong. Every other vehicle I've had, the brake pedal only has to start moving for brakes to really engage. In other words in my truck the pedal isn't very firm at first.

That's exactly where I'd want to mount a controller in my '04! Which one did you get? It doesn't look at all like the one mentioned earlier.

Find a safe spot, in reverse back up slowly and pull the E brake lever and release 2-3 times. This will adjust your rear brakes which may or may not be adjusted. They are suppose to be self adjusting when you pull the E brake but that's usually not enough.

Ah, so what I described is a symptom of almost non-functioning rear brakes? I'll give it a try, thanks.

The one described was on back order for a week and I am impatient so I went with the this one.

Wasn't too bad plus on the back all the manufacturing stickers say Tekonsha so it's probably similar-ish.

It's the Tekonsha Primus IQ in a different wrapper. Hopefully cheaper ( mine was $94 with 2nd gen harness included at Amazon)

I have mine set at 2.8 and works pretty well with my 3rd gen 4Runner and heavy ass pop up , expect similar when I get new one connected in Tacoma

I believe they actually monitor the line pressure. I've never had one so going off best guess. I'd assume as we move to drive by wire even for brakes they'll get a signal from the vehicle itself so they can match the trailer brakes to the vehicles.

The inertia types should apply more braking as the vehicle stops faster. So slow controlled at idle, not much at all, but in a panic stop it should pick up a lot of G's and apply harder. They should also work in reverse which not all do for some reason.
