You can't flat tow a Tacoma, right?

Stick or auto? In either case, I'd drop the rear driveshaft at the differential end if it were mine and I had no other choices other than flat towing. I hope you have a big RV and deep pockets. Best option would be to get a low-boy car trailer.

Why drop the rear? Wouldn't you have to drop the front one? Just asking because I don't know. Still learning

Because the front axle is disengaged from the wheels via an auto engagement/auto locking, so the front diff and driveshaft aren't turning when in 2WD. At least I suppose the Taco is like my GMC truck was.
On vehicles where the front drive requires locking hubs to disengage the wheels, I've seen people add locking hubs to the rear as well for towing purposes. It requires a full-floating rear axle, though, like 3/4 and one-ton trucks have.

Some transmissions will lube themselves as they're towed and some won't. Those that won't fail in spectacular ways. Im not sure which way the taco goes. When in doubt the shaft comes out.

    Ok.

Just use caution if you try to tow the RV with the Tacoma.

Ah, that makes sense. Yes, when in 2wd, you can actually turn the front shaft with your hands.

Parasitic drag has to be considered when you have something spinning, even though you can spin it by hand doesn't mean the wheels won't be making the shafts turn in a dry bearing.

    The owners manual addresses this.
If it were mine, I’d get a really good cover and put it completely on a low trailer.

I am aiming for a trailer. I am just thinking about the future Tacomas and making them towable as an added feature.

So what's the difference between towing it and having it in 2wd (for the front axle). I don't see difference. Would like to know

When the engine is running and driving normally everything that needs lube gets it. When the engine is off, no lube. A dry bearing doesnt last long.

The front axle will be fine, the damage be tcase and tranny.

Not to argue, just don't know. But I don't see how an engine lubs the front axle. Please explain

Your diff gears and axles are submerged in oil. They lube themselves. Depending on the transmission if the engine isn't running, there's no lubrication. If you have something spinning dry it will see a lot of damage.

If you drop the drive lines. There's nothing spinning except the axles and diff gears which still be fine.

Generally if the manual says no flat towing, it's for a reason.
