Thinking of getting a camper. Can those of you who have towed trailers and campers comment on how the tacoma has done? I have a 2019 4WD with the towing package. (I say that because it came new with a hitch).

I am curious how heavy the trailer is you have towed and how long it is. Also did you do anything different to your truck? Add anything?

    Thanks

There's a big towing thread around here somewhere, should be easy to find.
I've towed an A frame camper that loaded was around 2500lbs, the truck pulled it fine.
I ordered a Rockwood Geo Pro 15TB which has a listed dry weight of 2600lbs. I pack light so total weight should be around 3300lbs.
My opinion is to keep your trailer below 3500lbs, especially if you pull in the mountains.

Oh lordy we just had a thread that morphed in to a towing discussion the other day. The upper limit is around 6000 pounds per the manual. Tow that much up steep inclines and you probably won't like it but it is said it can do it. Stay with in 1/2 to 2/3 of the max is probably best. You will need a trailer brake controller for most trailers. Federal DOT requires it at 3000 pounds I think and some states have lower weight requirements for trailer brakes. My Pop up is under 3000 and has them.

Yes ... be sure your trailer has electric brakes if you exceed the approx 3K Lbs. It's in the owners manual and surprising how low it limits the trailer size without brakes ....

3K to 4.5K it's fine. Over 5K, the truck will do it, but the truck does not like it at all. At 6K+ it really does not like it.
