Best way to go about it.
If there was ANY trouble in the haul it would SURE offset the delivery cost .

Yep. I found a maypop passion fruit vine growing on the chestnut deer cage.
Left it alone, will try to move it next to the house in the fall.

Where I live some people asphalt their yards and paint it green. That was a thing in the 50’s, and 60’s, and grass lawns are a thing from the 1800’s.

We pulled out the grass and planted a desert rock garden xeriscape. Then all the neighbors saw it and did their own. There are more creative and appealing ways to plant a yard, even in the mountain states, that look much nicer than a crappy English manor-inspired lawn.

Before doing anything else, you should start cutting that lawn at max height and watering less frequently. 70-80% of that water is probably running off or evaporating. This first step is not just free, it actually saves you time and money.

    A) looks like you're scalping that grass in max heat / dry weather, good grief. Higher grass = more moisture retention
    B) make those roots work, which will both make the grass healthier and improve the soil

Final thought would be overseeding with some kind of secondary plant that will help improve the soil. Down south that would be something like clover, not sure about over there.

At least your weird stuff is useful (edible). Have you tasted it yet? To date, all my weird stuff just becomes bigger weird stuff, but at least they're green...

Last time I checked it, fruit was still hard. I need to take the truck to the back of the property and check it it. I has been wet and hot, I do not walk the property, unless I have to, too many chiggers and ants.

I loved that Kentucky Blue. Grew very well and held up in summer heat.

Don't worry about it anymore -

Grass?.... we don't need no grass.... we don't need no stinkin grass....

We just drop a few tons of rock and spread it out and presto - instant 'lawn'.... no watering, no cutting, no raking, no feeding, no weeding.... lasts for centuries

I get lawns are a hobby / industry for folks, but yeah, screw it. I enjoyed cutting grass as a kid. Now, it is just a waste of time and money for me.

Some artificial turf or rocks would be great. As is, about half of our 'hood lets their yards go dormant in the dry season. A week into the wet season and they look as good as the folks that paid horrendous water bills. Haha!

The Eastern Plains of Colorado are brown and dry for a reason. But the builder really screwed this development over. He never brought in top soil at all. I'm having a few yards of BioPost brought in when I do the fescue up front to till it into the existing ground soil. I did that 4 years ago when I put the fescue sod down in the backyard and my backyard is super healthy.

I tried like hell to get buffalo grass to grow in the backyard and it ended up being overrun with weeds. It was very patchy.

I am cutting at max height.

If you don’t have enough topsoils depth you are going to struggle. You’ll want at least 6” of good topsoil. Otherwise you are going to be spinning your wheels.

I brought in 200 yards (10x 20 yd. dump truck loads) of topsoil when I redid my lawn about 10 years ago.

The argument between TTTF and KBG is a waste of time unless the op planted the Bluegrass and knows what varieties were used. Although at this point it really doesn't matter as it seems like he's with the fescue route.

Here's a good site for anyone thinking of seating their own lawn.

Two trips if you’re doing sod. One per pallet maximum.

Oh I used to be pretty anal about my yard keeping the grass nice ( Kentucky Blue!! ) and watered and blah,
now that I'm in the desert it's difficult and eats a LOT of water and 90% of the 'yards' are hard-scape rocks
and boulders - I don't miss having to keep it cut and pretty - it's a one-and-done kinda thing here.

I did take solace in cutting the grass, keeping the lines all straight and nice - kinda mindless shit to do and
nobody was gonna bother you and all you had to worry about was keeping it all in line. Mindless therapy,
kinda like washing a car or something. Fresh cut grass smelled nice too...

    Same, same.

It was still a bit of joy until our kids got beyond being toddlers. Then with all the running around, I quit caring about grass and the bills to deal with it.

Someday if we get more than a postage stamp that is actually flat and useful, I might care again. Haha!

Also, the water rates here are nutz.

Using the water of ten households to maintain a tiny lawn is what's nuts. I'm surprised lawn watering is even allowed in Colorado or other drought-stricken states.

I wouldn't even be trying to grow anything but native vegetation there.

Yup. A couple neighbors likely use more water on their lawn than anything else.

Thankfully, the HOA is not hassling folks. Can't wait to get a place with elbow room and a much bigger garage. Haha!

The answer in the garden is more compost.
Given the yard is recent development , compost, which will bring life.

OP, I'm not trying to beat you up here, you're obviously trying to reduce your watering needs for the lawn, and really just asking about towing advice. It's just that water scarcity is already a major concern in these drier areas, and it's only going to get worse in the coming years (and many people will suffer).

Everyone should be looking at ways to save water now, and provide a little safety buffer for yourself if you can.

so, it’s the growing substrate (thanks builder) and not the grass type. New cultivars of KBG would do fine if they had some nice topsoil! Just wanted to point that out. Glad you are getting good earth under it either way.

get some iron down for the deep green look. Make sure you roll the sod to get good contact. Stagger the joints too. Landscape staples to pin the corners. Can pull em up later.
