I own a popup, 3200 fully loaded. There have been sudden road conditions that taxed the hell out of my v6 with that much load.

Buy a truck to match the trailer, if you plan on keeping the trailer. The 4cyl is not ideal to pull a trailer of that size. It technically can, but why strain it? It's hard on the truck, and it's a miserable-ass drive when you're pulling 100% of the tow rating. You also have no power in reserve for those sudden emergencies when you need power. Like a brutal crosswind or a short on-ramp, you are asking for danger if you pull 3000 pounds with a 4cyl. Get a v6.

Towed this a few times with 09 2.7 5 speed, about 2500 pounds dry. Was working hard but I wasn't the slowest vehicle on the road.

That's such a heavy pop-up, our travel trailer was 2500ish dry. Just sold it a month ago, good riddance...it's like towing a damn sailboat.

Vinyl letter insets for tailgate. Garmin CS60 GPS mounting. Other misc décor in the form of decals.
I had an '02 SR5 taco. 4 cyl/5speed manual. Towed a Chalet A-Frame all over the western 1/3 of the USA. It's the transmission is that makes it doable.
BUT! To do it without a brake controller? No. I had one installed just so I could tow this trailer.

Thank you for all of your input. I made the purchase last night. Proud owner of a 2013 Tacoma 4x4, 4cyl, 5 speed, reg cab. I have an appointment Friday to have hitch and brake controller installed.

Trac rac, tow hitch, fog lights, tonneau cover, Texas Edition rims, custom console, weathertech floor mats.
I’ve got a 2013 reg cab 4wd with a 5 speed. My pop up is about 2100 lbs loaded and the truck pulls it very nicely. I wouldn’t do it without a brake controller though.

My popup didn't b have brake . The 2.7 did the job, neither it nor I were happy doing it though.
