Have a few questions with regards to the numbers in my Tacoma manual. Have a 2013 TRD Sport and my max GVWR is listed at 5500, my max tow 6500, which in my mind should make the GCWR 12,000. The manual say the GCWR is 11,170 and not 12000 which is 830lbs less?

Same on the GVWR at 5500. Front axle shows 2755 and rear 3110 which is 5865 and 365 more than the 5500.

Is this Toyotas way of building a safety factor in here or maybe related to the suspension, shocks, springs or something else all together?

No one really knows how or what is built into Toyota’s weight numbers. They like all manufacturers allow a safety cushion built into the numbers. All that really matters are the numbers in the OM and on the truck. You are over thinking this. Just use the numbers in the OM and be done with it.
