Payload is the added weight on the truck tires: what is in the cab (you), the bed (cargo) and trailer tongue weight.

Your trailer has a payload rating also which is the added weight on the trailer tires (cargo). Like your truck, the trailer also has a gross vehicle weight (GVW) which is the actual trailer weight + trailer payload.

Many un-braked utility trailers are GVW rated at 2999 pounds - 1 pound under the electric brake requirement.

    I have a 5 x 12 GVW rated at 2999, subtract the weight of the trailer 950 = 2049 payload, 10% tongue weight = 299.

biggest weak spot on the Tacoma is the payload. you can be way over capacity very quickly. you can add heavier springs, air bags or whatever other snake oil products are out there but it doesn't increase payload capacity. just keep that in mind.

I see did'nt notice cause I was looking at the load on that poor 1 Gen tacoma. If that little truck can handle that weight then our 3 Generation would probably handle all that weight including the truck too

I'm still researching the trailer and waiting for availability.

I'm looking at a 1,000 - 1,500lbs trailer that's rated for 3,500~lbs and comes with ebrakes. I'm also going to buy the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller. It sounds like based on what everyone is saying here plus that PDF that I had attached a few posts back, I could put in 2,000 - 2,500lbs depending on other cargo and trailer weight.

I'm looking into get a 7x14 tandem axle trailer for hauling some quads mainly but also for misc. stuff like lumber, mowers, etc... Nothing over 2k plus the weight of the trailer. Also, going tandem to have the flexibility for down the road.

Do you think I should look into having brakes or should be fine with safe driving?
