Does anyone know if I can comfortably tow a single horse trailer with one horse inside with a 2008 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 Off-Road edition? I've been told I could, but I've also been told I can't.

thing is though, Living in Hawaii It's not like I'm going the distances as you'd imagine else where in the mainland where it's longer distances. It's mostly short distances from my pasture to another pasture and occasionally rodeo's.

I also don't really see much difference between an 08' and a 14' other than appearances if that. My truck has a tow package already and I've been told if my fan clutch is pink I should be able to tow decent amount of weight? anyone able to confirm that as well

My truck has the pink fan shroud but its a 4cyl, so it didnt come with the tow package as an option (in other words this isnt indicative of having tow pkg) If you have the tow package your truck should be rated to pull 6500lbs. Tow package includes a group 27F battery, larger alternator, 7pin connector, oil cooler, and trans cooler for automatics. One of the easiest ways to see if you have it is by checking below the oil filter and there should be a silver donut shaped piece, which is the oil cooler. Trucks that came with the 4pin connector instead of the 7pin were simply a hitch added by the dealers but werent actually the tow package.

With or without the tow package i wouldnt hesitate to pull a single horse trailer with one horse. Trucks w/o tow package are rated for 3500lbs

If that's the case I'll probably purchase a tow bar from my local Napa, I don't feel comfortable using a bumper hitch. I've tried it on my old dodge and naw ain't going back in that direction. I have plans to buy another dodge sometime soon, but it's gonna be my overall work truck because I haul cattle for the company I'm working for so a gooseneck is my go to at the moment, I use my boss's ford f-250 king ranch for hauling.

I pulled an old 16' stock trailer with a mid size diesel mower when our smaller trailer had a bad tire. It had plenty of power to pull it, but I wouldnt want to pull it loaded with stock.

pulling the trailer is one thing, how about stopping it ?

does the trailer have working brakes ?

is there a brake controller in the truck to operate the brakes ?
