    Hmmmmm? So many subjective opinions......

On frame rust; My 2011 hasn't had it's frame replaced. I live where they salt roads if there's snow in the forecast, salt HEAVILY when it does snow. My frame looks like what I'd expect a NEW frame should look like. Nice and black, no rust, all good. I may be the ONLY person on this earth with that situation....May be more of us.....All I know is my frame hasn't rusted.

On rear springs; I for one did NOT expect to be able to haul thousands upon thousands of lbs when I bought a Tacoma. I just got back in my office a few minutes ago. I DID haul a rather large cast iron HVAC system circulation pump in to be rebuilt. It weighs just a tic over 900lbs. It sat right against my tailgate. The rear end did squat, maybe 2" or so. No huge deal. In 13 months, this is probably the 3rd or 4th time I've had anything heavier than a bag of groceries in the bed of my Tacoma. I've got a bigger truck when I need to haul something heavy. I didn't buy the Tacoma to be a heavy hauler.

On V6; I get a low end of 19+ to as much as 23mpg, depending on how and where I'm driving. For a mid size, 4wd pickup, that isn't horrible. (Coming from a Dodge that got 9mpg ON A GOOD DAY) Power, while it won't snap your neck, WILL keep up with traffic, runs as good as I need it to, and runs well on 87 octane gas.

I've towed a trailer (one time, maybe 10 miles) with GVW of 5500 lbs and change. I wouldn't want to tow that load often, or up the side of a mountain. Fortunately, I don't tow often and save my mountain drives for when the truck is relatively empty.

This! As for the fellow that mentioned the 2Gen rust problems...well I own a 3rd Gen, I have rust proofed the undercarriage as I do with all my vehicles and will have it done annually. The road Gods salt our roads up here and lay down gravel that tries to imitate sand on the highways over the winter which acts as sandblasting on the frames hence the need to redo the rust proofing. Most companies, and I suspect Toyota is one of them, that identify an issue rectify the problem if it affects their bottom line. The rust issue certainly was an issue and I have no reason to believe Toyota has not addressed the issue with the 3rd Gen. Time will tell. My 6cyl truck does not ping, gets good gas mileage so far and is capable for what I bought it for. Toyota does a better than average job in engineering their vehicles. I am not saying suppliers of parts can't screw up but the engineering is there and there workers seem to put them together better than most. I like my truck. Others may not and the truck is not for everyone but it is for what I want.

Clearly you never owned different trucks.

Now show me a frame failing on Ford, Nissan or even GM trucks...

I have a Nissan sitting behind my garage right now that you can put your fist all the way through.
I just recently gave a GM suffering the same away to someone FOR FREE just to get rid of it.
    The GM wasn't even 100kmiles.
My Tacoma is roughly the same mileage as the GM had, and its frame is in *perfect* shape. Not a speck of rust anywhere.

blueT if you dont like tacoma why do you stay on this forum. If you dont have something positive to say about tacoma then go to the ford, chev, gmc, or dodge forums and tell all those guys what a great truck they have.

    Welcome to the forum.

I'm a big fan of towing at or under the manufacturers rated towing capacity. So if the 5800lbs includes the weight of the trailer - you should be OK and enjoy your new truck. Please do make sure (as the owners manual will tell you when you read it) to make sure that your trailer brakes are properly functioning.

However, if the boat itself is 5800lbs and doesn't include the trailer - you should strongly consider cancelling your order and getting a full size truck rated for the full weight of boat and trailer.

There already is, and will continue to be a lot of noise in this thread. Towing capacity always seems to be a contentious topic. Just ignore any replies you don't find helpful or on point.

I have 2007 Tacoma with new frame, courtesy of Toyota. Are you saying Toyota is making mistake and replacing perfectly good frames at $13k a pop ? Now why my Nissan had perfect frame after 15 years, or my Ford?
Now why my 2o years old Land Cruiser has no holes in frame but 9 years old truck does.

I am here because I paid enough to Toyota to not have to deal with rusting crap. Now I had 1gen that got crushed, 2gen that got frame replaced now I am fixing all the crap that is wrong with truck after it got taken a part. I also have Toyota luxury vehicle that is rusting through and Toyota is claiming ignorance again.
So does that explains your question. Now If and when I shell out even remotely equal amount of money for GM or Ford than I will complain on their forum too.
Now since your truck has frame that will rust to crap, I would listen more than write.

Willfully ignoring all of the factual information regarding changes in frame production somewhere in the MY2009-ish cycle? Why do you think they are only providing frame replacements for up to MY2008? The *manufacturer* was changed even.

Except my 2007 just got pretty same frame as he has, from the same factory Metals, made by the same people, through the same process.
His crap is the same as my new frame. My new frame came with missing paint spots and bare metal starting to rust. That was on Day 1 of coming back from Dealer.

Toyota only did up to 2008 year because that's the Last time they could get money out of Dana. After 2008 there is no Dana so Toyota will have to eat 100% of replacement cost. (we see if they willing to do that now)

Guys do the forum a favour and put BlueT on your ignore list. Eventually he will go away. Right now all you are doing is feeding the troll.
