So my friend found this bmw m3 in PA and he asked me if i could help him tow it. I wasnt sure if i could. The gross weight of the bmw is roughly 3650lbs. But this thing is modified. It has lighter wheels exhaust etc. so hopefully it is lighter. The drive is from KS to PA. 1000 miles. Would this be too much stress for the tacoma? (I have a 2019 sr v6 4x4 tacoma. Bone stock just has wheels and tires. Bfg ko2-lvl8 mk6 wheels) is this too much stress on the truck? Thoughts and opinions thx!

Make sure you have a trailer brake controller and go get it!

It’ll pull it fine. Just put it in S4 and ECT and keep it no more than about 60mph.

    Car dolly that sucker.
Your truck would trailer it but wouldn't like it..... And go 55 like that dolly fender says.

It will be fine. Fuel mileage will suck of course but truck will handle it just fine. I have a 20’ car hauler trailer for everything I do basically that needs a trailer. The trailer is 1800 pounds and I’ve hauled a car with mine no problem. Trailer brakes will be needed unless you want to eat up your brakes and are the type to stay about 20 car lengths away from everyone.

My friend prefers to not dolly the car. Would a trailer be too much weight?

What’s the trailers weight? You’ll be pretty close to max. I would do it if it were a shorter distance but, 1000 miles is a long haul. Lots of variables. Trailer weight, tongue weight, brakes.

Tell your friend to go buy his own truck then, pretty simple.
It's your truck, tow it how you are most comfortable.

If your truck was a manual 4-cyl, I'd say do it.
But with an automatic 6-cyl? Nah, too much work for it.

As long as trailer and car are under the max tow rating and you position the car for proper tongue weight and have trailer brakes that work you'll be fine.

There needs to be a down vote option on the forum.

OP: get the Uhaul auto trailer and tow it. You may want to consider a brake controller.

Some Uhauls might not rent to you with that combo. While it is technically under your weight rating, (auto trailer is 2200 pounds), they want the trailer+cargo to be under 80% of your vehicle curb weight. If you trailer it, either you need to lie to UHaul, or get an agent to lie for you, or find a trailer somewhere else. :hattip:

You can check ahead of time with the calculator built into the reservation system on their website.

The uhaul trailer is 2,210 lb empty. I just tried their calculator using my Nissan pulling my taco, which comes out to 88% of the capacity and it was ok with it. (Edit:. And 120% of the curb weight of the Nissan)

OP your friend needs to rent a full size truck. You will be at or over pretty much every max tow rating with that setup (payload yellow sticker on door jam, tongue 640, and capacity 6400). Can you do it? Sure. Would I want to tow that amount for a 1000 miles? Not a chance.

2000lb uhaul 6x12 trailer loaded with 3000lbs of tile and a motorcycle, another 1000lb of payload in the bed and 3 passengers in the cab. Drove from MN to CO 65mph no issues.
