I would not fully trailer that car 1,000 miles with any Taco.

I wouldn't do it. And don't assume a 1/2 ton is any better. Payload is the limiting factor and lots of 1/2 tons won't haul that much. Some will with ease, but you have to check the specs on each individual truck.

If that is accurate you had 1650 lbs on the suspension of the truck not counting the weight of the passengers. 650 lbs tongue weight + 1000 in the bed. Being optimistic that the passengers were all skinny 150 lb folks you and 2000 lbs on your trucks suspension not counting anything else in the truck. Payload on these trucks vary between about 900 lbs up to 1300 or so. Every truck is somewhat different, check the sticker on the drivers door or door jamb.

You were over the limit for 99% of 1/2 ton trucks and some 3/4 tons. Not smart. I wouldn't be bragging about it.

I would not do that with a brand new truck. Tell your friend to rent a truck and trailer and you’ll ride out with him.

I always get a kick out of guys like you, who read the user manual as if it were their bible.
And while I have no intention to say anything specific about any particular set of circumstances, there is a LOT more to it than simply the numbers that are printed in the user manual, which don't mean anything besides their *recommended* limits under the understanding that the load was placed by Curly, Larry, and Moe, that it will be driven through a blizzard with whiteout conditions, at 10% over the speed limit, and by a driver who is probably half drunk.

And just to add a point to clarify, I'm not in any way referring to whatever laws may be imposed on you by the ignorant people trying to control your life. Only on the applicability of the user manual as an absolute gauge of what you should or should not do from the perspective of safety.

Clarification required: What has the truck's age to do with anything? Most people would assume that a truck that is BRAND NEW would be more likely to be in a good condition, i.e., brakes that aren't worn out or rusted half stuck. It certainly wouldn't be LESS capable of handling hard work than any particular random OLD truck.

Although my truck was a second gen I towed about that much weight with a truck that was already way overloaded all the way down from Alaska. You’ll be fine as long as you drive appropriate to the conditions while towing.

Put it on a flatbed with trailer brakes you'll be OK. Especially if it's in the Midwest 99% of your drive will be flat. It'll be fine on hills by gas mileage will go to hell.

Gas mileage will only really go to hell if you're trying to race with it. Keep the speed down slow and easy and the efficiency won't take too bad of a hit. I've pulled vehicles on a flatbed with a Tacoma, and got better mileage than the towed vehicle EVER got while under its own power.

Here’s your clarification...I wouldn’t do that with ANY Tacoma regardless of age. Good enough?

Since that's a completely unrelated point, and at that also extremely ignorant, the answer is YES. You have clarified that your words carry no meaning.
