i can't assume stuff about your weight and MPG like you can about me dropping one mention of MPG in a post? i mean either way it doesn't really matter i think he has all the info he needs. and im off work today, my laptop is at 81% so i have at least half the day to argue.

I hate that they advertise "sway control." Sway control is if the truck's yaw sensor detects back and forth oscillation it will start pumping individual brakes (truck brakes, not trailer). What they don't tell you is that if the trailer is swinging wildly enough for the truck's computer brain to notice it, it's way, way too late.

Good call on towing it with the Tundra. The taco can do small campers just fine. It really shines with campers that are under 4,000 pounds fully wet, even better if you can find one shorter than 18 feet hitch-to-bumper. It doesn't do so hot if you want to pull a 2 bedroom penthouse suite, though.

It was definitely in the "way too late" category when it kicked in on the F150 too. I'm sure it was helpful, but by that time my sis knew it was pretty crazy and started to slow down. With an actual sway hitch, it would never have gotten to that level. So yeah, sway control on Taco is nothing like an anti-sway system on a hitch.

EDIT: Not saying it's bad! I'm sure it's a super big help in bad situations. Just two different things.

The truck itself weighs 4K lbs which means any side wind, or steel bridge will make your trailer bounce around like a kid at a bouncy house. That sway will hurt and you’ll need to pull the trailer brake to compensate.

Otherwise that weight behind you will drag your back wheels around and cause instability. Simple physics.

I’m pretty sure this has been posted before in the trailer forums.

It isn't a real sunburst. The previous owner painted it corvette millennium yellow in 2007. The photo was from Labor Day at Miatas at Hallett, I put the car into a wall and ive been working on repairing it ever since.

I would not tow that thing with a tacoma. Like many said yes its possible but if your asking my guess your new to towing. Travel trailers are not like a heavy landscape trailer or flatbed.. It's gonna be a white knuckle drive the whole time and your taking some big risks towing that. and assuming at least 400lbs worth of passengers and 200 lbs of gear and food at a minimum your damn close to max GVWR

so if I am planning on pulling a 1095lb dry weight tear drop trailer with a SR 6cyl 4x4, given the numbers in this thread, will I be ok to tow? tongue weight would be less than 150lbs

and is there a way to "upgrade" the tow package, or would that involve actually upgrading the suspension elements

just checking b/c the plan is to buy the Taco to pull the tear drop trailer....

Tear drop you are ok towing. Better wind resistance and they are designed to be pulled by smaller vehicles.. I would still get a brake controller considering its a small price for piece of mind. I pulled a 1500lb pop up and was perfectly fine. Just don't expect it to pull as easy as a full size pick up. You will know its back there the whole time.

I have pulled over 5k lbs with my tacoma. Just wouldn't do it with a big as travel trailer
