Hoping I can get some input here from the community. I have a '15 Tacoma with V6 and towing package. I'm planning on moving from Oregon all the way to the east coast in a few months. I know that probably the smartest thing to do is rent a 15ft uhaul ($5k for 1 way not include gas...) or get a half ton truck but I love my Tacoma to death. Problem is my Tacoma is already kinda overloaded with all the camping/offroading stuff on it. Roughly 6,000lbs fully loaded. Tack onto that the fact that I want to tow a 6x12 or even better a 7x14 enclosed trailer I'm sure it's going to be hurting. Am I pissing into the wind here? I do have Dakar HDs leaf springs and heavy duty front springs as well. I towed my buddys old Corolla on a rented car trailer about 5 hours away and it didn't seem to mind it too much long as I was going 55mph. I did remove my rack/tent and skid plates when I did that though. Do you guys think it would be able to handle it or am I going to hurt my transmission and other stuff attempting to do this. I wish I could just downsize to a bare minimum but I have some larger furniture I just can't get rid of. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Forget towing a trailer cross country. That’s a total pita. Look into moving pods. May cost a little more (may not). Renting a trailer or truck costs $$$ and your gas mpg will be 10 mpg or less. A moving pod is delivered to your home, you load it up and then it is delivered to your destination when you want it delivered. You get to enjoy the cross country drive without the hassle of towing a trailer and without the stress on your truck. No way in hell I’d tow a moving trailer cross country.
I had some furniture and miscellaneous shipped from the east coast to California a couple years ago. I packed the pod, they picked it up and stored it until I wanted it shipped and delivered. Easy peasy

Yea I'd love to do that, not willing to spend $7k+ though when I can tow a trailer for about a grand.

Nice, let me know how that goes. I'm sure it'll be fine though, that's a nice sized trailer to tow with our trucks lol.

My only concern is how heavy my truck is and turning the 35s. Only place that is crazy hills tho is the east side of Salt Lake city. After that is smooth sailing

I'll be passing that same spot on my way east. I've only got pizza cutter 33's but got full armor on my truck as well as rack/rtt on the back. Truck is a dog on the highway. My only ray of hope is that I'll be cruising at 55 as opposed to 75-80 since I'm towing so the truck shouldn't have to work as hard.

Trust in the tacoma….mine on a 1500 mile move. 65, sport mode, and plenty of space in front.

I have towed a 5,400lb (loaded), 6' high, 7' wide Featherlight enclosed trailer all over the US for the past 12 years with my 2009 Taco, zero issues. 190,000 miles total on the truck, at least half have been towing miles. My best speed for mileage and minimizing shifting is 65-68mph. I do commit the sin of towing in 5th. If it starts hunting for a gear, I run it in 4th. You'll be fine.

I'm currently towing a small v nose packed to the top. Around 2500lbs total. With my ovtune and 5.29s I can tow in 6th comfortably. Hills I'll slap it down to 4th but at 75mph I'm at 2350 rpm in 6th

I have a 6x12 V-nose cargo trailer, I was thinking of taking it on a 1300 mile trip. I pulled it here local and on the interstate running 75mph it would run over 3000 rpm. Is that normal? I was expecting lower rpm.

If you’re travelling at 75mph try a higher gear if you don’t like the rpms at 3000. (I’m assuming you’re towing in 4th gear). At any rate, keep it in the gear it will hold and rpms be damned. :D
