Thanks it is the undercover ridgelander. Bars come with it. The bars slide into grooves on the top of the cover. Great cover I am very happy with it.

I had probably 500 lbs or more in the bed as well. Only thing on the trailer was the bike.....

Approaching my trip next Saturday. Got the uhaul 6x12 reserved and extended mirrors. Our route takes us to Nashville, St. Louis, Kansas City, then Omaha. Do I need a brake controller for something like this?

Rentals from uhaul either have no brakes or a surge brake. So a brake controller is unnecessary and wouldn’t do anything anyway

Thanks for the heads up. You’re right I didn’t think about that. I appreciate everyone’s input! I’m a little nervous just because I have to go so damn slow on these interstates.

Should I stick with recommended tire psi? I know I’m probably opening up a can of worms here, but traveling from FL to NE brings a vast difference in climate. Didn’t know I’d pressure affected tow performance.

I usually run about 35 psi in mine (up from the default 30). Going that distance I would recommend checking it each morning (or if you are driving straight through once or twice a day). I usually flip back and forth in the MFD while cruising to check it every couple hours (unnecessary but only takes a few seconds to check). Pressures will fluctuate throughout the day so don’t worry unless it starts to go more than like 5 psi one way or the other.

I’ve had a good track record of getting flats over the last month so I keep an eye on the tpms. I also have a VIAIR compressor I keep in my truck which has gotten more usage than I ever expected.

Nashville sucks since there is no bypass around the city

ST Louis & KC are ok.

just did this trip with a 6x12 uhaul with a 4runner LE without extended mirrors since the uhaul trailer is the same width as a 4runner/Tacoma (the wheels stick out past the bodies though a little)

6x12 has surge brakes, no need.

edit : double check the uhaul tire pressure, 1 had 15lbs in it even though it looked ok. ran it back up to 55 psi on the 6x12.

also I checked the tread temp by hand at each gas up to make sure none were having any issues. also check the tread as I touched them to see if any FOD was in the thread.

Ha yes! I'm originally from STL so I know the midwest harsh winters! My wife and I stocked up on cold weather gear over black Friday. Never been to Omaha and really looking forward to it! We are moving into a place in West Omaha, 180th and Dodge.

Thanks a lot man, good call on double checking pressure. I have a compressor I'm taking with us. Nice to be able to plug it into the taco's bed.

Good deal I just topped mine off this morning. Crazy how much the weather makes the psi vary. the MFD can make you go crazy if you're OCD like me. I hate when they don't match up!

You inspired me to get the KB voodoo tonneau cover compatible bars. I have my rocky mounts on them for my bikes.

I work probably a mile from the area you are moving into. You'll like enjoy it depending on where you work with rush hour on dodge st. being a headache. If you want any hints/locations around here feel free to shoot me a PM.

@DwightKSchrute - Just made that move (Jacksonville, FL to Omaha, NE)... expect HORRIBLE fuel mileage and take it easy through the mountains.

    You coming to Offutt?

guess someone needs read some basic trailer loading rules :)

that bike center mass should have been strapped slightly ahead of the trailer wheels. even in that quoted pic, I can see the rear end squatting due to too much weight on the tongue.

a fully loaded 6x12 uhaul trailer that was filled completely with furniture with no spare room and correctly loaded, my 4runner barely squatted at all, maybe 1/8 inch at most. I got better mpg starting in Atlanta and going thru the mountains than I did in SD and ND due to the winds.

and the 4runner only is rated at 4700 lbs towing.
