You said an electric brake controller was needed, but that might vary by state. My state requires trailer brakes above 1500 lbs (might be off on the exact weight), but they don’t require an electric brake controller and the associated trailer brakes.

It is just a nit pic as I stated.

TBQH, OP should be talking to a lawyer about his criminal and civil legal libility, not random people on the internet.

Surge brakes: When I worked on them it seemed almost every part came from Italy.
    Renamed as : "Sergio Brakes"

I'm not sure what you are trying to achieve here...

Surge brakes are completely self contained on the trailer only. The advantage is that any weight capable vehicle with a 4 flat light connector can tow the trailer, U-haul trailers are equipped surge brakes.

Electric brakes require a controller installed on the tow vehicle, the advantage is they are generally found to be more responsive and linear acting along with being easily adjustable for varying loads via settings on the controller.

Most brake required trailers sold come with electric brakes as evidenced by the inclusion of the wiring and sometimes controller on virtually all new trucks with a towing package.

It was not an unreasonable assumption on my part that the trailer the OP was discussing would come equipped with electric brakes.

Again, I'm not sure what you are trying to achieve here.

You need a hauler not a crawler

I saw an Isuzu N series with a real nice power washing setup. The tank, pressure washer, and multiple hose reals were all mounted on a flat bed under a canopy.

It was a “nit pic”. Maybe that’s not a well known term outside my industry. Carry on.

    Not well.

Limit speed to 45 mph and keep a close watch ahead. Also, you’re hauling liquid. Google “surge.”

That has been reported on here before and the general consensus is that it is manufacturing leftovers that the magnet has collected as designed and is not something to get worried about. There are consenting opinions.

Again, gears are ordered. Too late.

Plus, the other symptoms of my rear diff issues are still there.

    Welcome to TW!
    Here's my anecdotal experience:
Heaviest I towed with my 4 cylinder was a car on a dolly, weight was near 3,900 pounds. It came back with me on a highway with traffic lights. Accelerating was obviously slow but it did just fine, moved away from a red at a similar speed as the semi trucks did. Everyone seems very concerned about stopping, but I had full confidence and stopped at a few surprise reds with ease. For me, the biggest worry was that the load I was towing was nearly the same weight as my truck. You certainly could feel the truck move around with the trailer a bit when hitting some bumps. But again, no real issues, just stay alert.Toyota Towcoma.jpg

Overall, I was very happy with how my truck did, but it worked it hard. It's a trip I plan to likely never do again.

But that's towing at and above the limit. I've done far more miles with 1,000 to 2,000 pounds behind the truck. Full confidence there. Truck felt stable at speed, no concerns stopping or accelerating. So if you plan to tow 2,500 pounds like you said in your later post, I'd do it all day long and not even think about it. Though for $200, I'd for sure throw on a transmission cooler.

I'm not an expert, that's just my thoughts and my experience. Whatever you plan to do, good luck and be safe.
