    Tow package
I have a question hopefully someone can help me with. I have a 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD crew cab with the towing package. It says that it is rated for 6800 And I am looking at a buying a travel trailer. The one that the wife and I really like is 4000 lbs. Dry and 20 feet long. I would not fill with water until we get to our destination. The trailer has breaks on it. I am not new to pulling trailers but not sure if it would be to much for the truck. And would like to know the gas mileage it would take me down to. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Mark, i have the same total weight. Be sure to add the weight of passengers, fuel, food and gear to all that . Try to keep it below 5000 lbs if you are in the mountains or hills and you will be fone, but expect to get less than 10mpg and be in the 4000 rpm range a lot.

My camper is right at 4200 loaded and ready to go. The truck pulls it well and I have gotten 10 to 12.7 mpg pulling it. Just take your time set your truck up right and you will be fineIMG_0041.jpg

We (wife and I) are thinking about getting a camper, I was looking for something like you have. What is the brand and model? Do you like it? Would it be big enough to sleep 4 ppl (we can never get rid of our grown kids...lol).

It is an Evergreen 189FDS. However they went out of business July of 2016. Our was new and never titled when we bought it and we did not get any warranty with it but then most only give a 1 year warranty anyways. The box is only 15.5 feet long. If you look at it compared to my truck, the truck is longer than the box. We took it on an 1100 mile trip and the truck and camper are well matched. The camper had no issues at all during the trip and everything worked as it was supposed to. It is designed to sleep 3 but with the slide out it can easily sleep 4 or 5 but not sure about 4 adults. With the dual axles and the Anderson WDH there was no sway at all when we took it on the trip. We really like the camper and the way the inside is set up. 9f35930229_640[1].jpg

You'll be fine pulling that weight. Auto manufacturers under value their max tow ratings so the end user is not upset about performance as well as insurance reasons.

Kind of like my 2.7 Ecoboost F-150 being rated at 7600 lbs but I've trailered 12,400 lbs behind it... It was all back country roads, I have trailer brakes, I gave myself tons of time to slow down and kept it under 25 mph.

damn, crazy seeing everyone's gas mileage with this amount of weight. I have a 19' Tracker boat and tow size is 24'. Dry weight is like 3800 lbs. I live in Idaho (elevation is about 3900') but range in elevation from 3700-4300' usually driving the mountains. I am getting a little over 16 mpg towing the boat at 65 mph. Without the boat, I am at about 20.5 mpg.

Great, thanks for the feedback. I really like that one. That is the perfect size that I am looking for.

I don't know how far you would want to travel but there is a 2015 Cruiser Fun Finder 189FBS at Riley's RV sales in Mayfield Ky. I looked at it, really liked it and was going to buy it before I found my Evergreen 189FDS. It is in good condition and is similar in weight and size as mine. The difference between the slides is what makes the FBS and FDS models different

I looked for 2 years before I bought mine. It is a big decision and you don't want to buy something that will constantly give you problems. Take your time, read as much as you can then make your choice.

It's the sail effect of a travel trailer. A boat is more streamlined and doesn't increase the frontal area.
