Just got my 2016 SR5 4x4. It has the factory toe hitch. My question is do I need a 2" drop insert or just a straight insert?

    Depends on what you're towing?

Nothing heavy. Maybe a small open trailer with a Quad runner or two.

You want the tongue and trailer as level as possible. There are many factors that go into this.

I have 2" and 4" drop and 4" and 6" up all with 2" ball. Depends on your trailer or trailers. They are cheap have a few different ones.

Andersen rapid hitch, adjust to any height and you can get the 3 ball sizes.

Anderson rapid hitch seems to cover all the bases, but damn it's expensive....I'm thinking maybe a 2" drop insert will cover most needs, and at a much lower cost.

The receiver on this truck is very high due to the off road capability. I had to get a 5.25 inch drop bar and still have the nose of my utility trailer sit high for loading the bed and trailer. Here is pic. It's a small trailer, though

I have a 5x8 utility trailer using a 4" drop. Going to have to go with 5" or 6" to get it level.

Thanks, and a special thanks for the picture. Looks like I was way off with a 2" drop :notsure:......5 or 6 seems more appropriate for my needs.

What is the height of the center of your hitch receiver?

You want the trailer and tongue no lower than level AFTER loading. Load weight and load position are a factor.

Don't have the trailer yet, will be buying cheap from a friend---it's a 5x8 and looks very similar to the one in Eric's picture. Height to middle of receiver hole is 17.5".
