Agreed on the rear suspension. I have Dakar HD's and it tows much better than stock. I originally just had sumosprings and that was probably good enough for most. I found my SBDC liked to porpoise with a load and stock OR setup on undulating roadways. I do run just SL tires though and have had no issues there. Like yourself I ended up lifting my truck and now looking at replacement tires, I find E load sizes to be about my only real option to fill the wheel wells. I/ve run 265/70-17 for 48k miles or so, but I lifted after buying tires which is dumb of course. So I might end up E load as well eventually. My other ride is also a rav4 lol.

As or towing, my 3rd gen at speeds and RPM's you have listed is pretty much the same. I'll make a note to check it out next time I tow.

Cheers mate. Hope all is going well for you.

You claiming your loaded down truck spins the tires if you lay into it is what's funny.

1st one compares same load same terrain
    same tyres .........same gearing
no less over time the manufacturers attempt to appease the EPA rears its ugly head

flat /level no grade........weight only affects acceleration
grades will pull down an engine dramatically................even in a 6litre V8
a large camper will add essentially more drag than a compact weight oriented structure

the top gears stick/auto dont provide much advantage
    no less are EPA dominated

iv towed Flat Florida with the weight U described far faster
i would think something the matter with any Taco that couldnt run faster than 55mph

    :notsure:

Tongue load works in both directions, esp with a high CG load.

Note that ATs and MTs, 2.7l and 3.5l, and 2nd Gen and 3rd Gen all have different gearing. I'm sure that you know, but it all factors in.

I wish I had the 2nd Gen chart. I think the 4.0l MT was 4.56 gears with 5th at 1:1?

In general, this site helps me quite a bit:

I think your 3rd gear ratios are likely the same ish as my 4th so yah your speeds and rpm would be similar.

    3.73 to 3.91 AT or 4.3 MT I think.

    Corrected MT ratio

Thank you Mr. Dangle. Does that amount to much rpm difference you think?

4.30 on the 3rd Gen 3.5l MTs, but you need to add in the tranny ratio and tire diameter. That is why I like that website. Like you did, I mainly check it for top gear RPMs, and also 1st gear crawl speeds.

Why do you find that funny? The trailer is heavier than the truck so naturally when I accelerate from a stop it wants to spin the tires if I'm to heavy on the peddle.

Few hundred based on users feedback and gear ratio calculators.

Great advice on suspension & E rated tires (just had ko2s installed). Should one considering re-gearing also or does that not really apply here?

I also have KO2s on my truck. I find the gearing in my truck to be perfect. I can’t speak for the 3rd gens.
