Finally had a chance to test out how my '14 Tacoma DCLB tows my 21' Tige Wakeboard Boat. Thought I'd post some pics for all those curious about the towing capabilities with a 21' boat. Tacoma did great and will do the job for me all summer long. Glad I don't have to trade in my new truck for a new Tundra(even though I love those trucks).

My Taco has a 3" lift with AAL in the rear. Sags a little bit and I will add air bags soon. I have a 4" adjustable ball mount and have set it for a 3" drop(due to a bit of sag), but will probably set it at a 4" drop when I get the air bags installed. This is what I originally had it set to when I measured everything, but didn't take into account the sag. Trailer now sits level with the 3" drop. So far, so good.

I originally phoned my dealer and was inquiring about a Tundra, my sales guy told me "Why? That Tacoma was built for towing those things". Told him all my specs and weight and said "it should be no problem, and that boats are more aerodynamic than TT's are when towing". He could have easy told me otherwise and sold me a Tundra right on the spot but he didn't. He said he's been towing a 21' boat for years with the same truck. Glad to know and hear his stories.

    Boat dry weight is 3700lbs.
    Trailer is approx. 1000lbs.

Ahh yes, forgot to mention it has trailer surge brakes on it! I definitely would not tow anything without trailer brakes!!!

Nice looking setup. You planning on running a filler line for the bags or you going to get the automatic setup?

Thanks for posting, towing my 22' Tige tomorrow morning for the first time. Was wondering how it would do and by the sounds of it, great!

One question, when you're towing do you keep it in 4th or just D?

Love the new tiges!! Here was our old set up, my 2wd Tacoma when it was stock and our 21' wakesetter. Towed surprisingly well, the v6 does really well, our only compaints were big grades and the brakes sometimes. We upgraded to a half ton for towing since we would usually tow 4-5 hours to our favorite lake, and now we no longer own the Malibu :(

How dose it do on steep grades? Im looking at getting a 20' fishing boat. Weights about 1000 lbs less and with the lift and tires im am worried about towing up hill.

It's towed great for me so far. Just an update, I've towed about 5000kms so far, and no issues with the truck. It pulls it great. Up huge hills and steep boat launches. No problem.
