Hey guys, I’m trading in my Ridgeline to pick up a new Tacoma next week and my first mod is tires. I tow a 3,200lb dry camper fairly regularly and was wondering if anyone has any input on towing with the pizza cutters? I’ve read through most of the skinny tire thread and didn’t see any specific input on if the taller and narrower tire has a negative impact. Thanks!

Only difference is going to be the sidewall height, diameter is the same.
16" wheel will have more sway in corners and absorbs bumps 6% better.

Fitting 33's on a stock lift will be a bit tricky as well

Way to quantify bump absorbance. You should be in marketing if you're not already.

255s normally fit with stock wheel specs, add any offset though and they won't.

They will fit on a -13 offset 17" wheel?

If you have any offset other than 0 they wont fit.

I wasn’t planning to regear, just an Overland tune.

I just gotta jump in with the fact that -13 offset is not stock.

And before you jump to reply, my obnoxiously pedantic opener isn't helping answer the OPs question either, much like the "will it fit" sidebar.

    ...

To the question "will it tow?" The answer is maybe. 255s are tricky. You are losing a little bit of mechanical advantage, which means getting off the line and backing the trailer are going to feel a little steeper.

For a camper that's probably somewhere between 3800-4200 pounds ballpark- wet (As a personal note, I really really hate the convention of using dry weight when talking about campers) you are going to feel it. If you haven't towed on stock tires yet, I highly recommend taking at least one good road trip before moving to pizza cutters so that you know if you are willing to lose towing performance from there.

I chose not to mention rolling weight because that's very tire specific. Some 255s have weights that are close-ish to stock, some are way heavier. If you start approaching that 50 pounds per corner benchmark, you will regret it. It's going to suck.

Heck, I tow a 3300 pound wet-weight on 265-70-17s (at 47 pounds per tire) and I still notice a small degradation from stock. It doesn't stop me from pulling my camper across the country, but I do feel it.

I won't say don't get pizza cutters, but I will say wait until you get a good feel for stock towing first.

Thanks. I’m used to towing with a Ridgeline, so I’ve got a pretty good idea of what to expect power wise. I had a 2017 Tacoma that I towed some with too, but it was a manual transmission. My basic options are either a Bilstein 2” lift with SL 265/75/r16’s or keeping it stock and going with the E rated 255 pizza cutters and hoping that those are enough to make the truck look bigger. I’m getting a double cab long bed and I think the stock tire set up looks a little small on such a long truck.
