So I am very new to the Tacoma World, bought it today 2014 TRD Sport.

I bought the truck for many reasons but one was to pull my wife's trailer that weighs about 1200lbs. It does not have trailer brakes and I became concerned that Toyota states in the manual if it does not have trailer brakes max is 1000lbs. Does anyone tow more than that?

Also, I bought it used so I don't have the original window sticker. The hitch looks factory but how can I tell if it really has the towing package?

I am very particular about my vehicles, just sold my WRX with 186k on it so I keep them a very long time. I just want to make sure everything is right before I start moving stuff around.

    Thank you everyone..

    Welcome.
To see if you have the factory tow package pop the hood and look down. There should be a smaller looking radiator the size of a letter envelope. if that's there you have the factory tow package.

Most TRD Sports have the tow pac. Take a pic of the wiring connector and we can tell you

Looks factory. However someone could have added just the hitch.

Yes but someone could add an oem hitch and it wouldn't have the tow package.

But as you said most TRDs come with them. I know in my area Toyota forces you to get one.

True, but the trailer connection makes it 99% likely to be the OEM tow pac...especially on a TRD Sport

Not sure about two coolers. I think it's just the tranny oil cooler. I could be wrong.

"V6 Tow Package: Class-IV Towing Receiver Hitch, Transmission Oil Cooler (Automatic Transmission Only), Engine Oil Cooler, 130A Alternator, Heavy Duty Battery, 7-Pin Connector w/Converter, and Trailer Sway Control"

If you have this stuff, you have the factory tow pkg.

It's 1200 lbs, you'll never know it's back there even if you don't have the tow package. Some states require trailer brakes on loads over about 3000 lbs, but I've never heard of anyone using them on a trailer under 2000. I often pull 3000 with no brakes and have never had a single issue. I'd not want to tow much over 3000 without them.

    You guys have been great!!!

    Thank you!

I have the oil cooler, the pink clutch and the trams cooler. So it is all there.

We will not be towing much without a break. 5/8 trailer. So we are set.

    Thanks again!!!

I have to replace my factory class IV hitch receiver, does anyone know where to get one? Toyota wants around $700 and the only aftermarket I can find are class III hitch receivers. I have a 2016. Thanks.

Why do you need to replace the factory hitch on a 16?
