Hey guys, I'm new here...looking at a very well priced 2014 straight 4 Tacoma and interested in purchasing it as my daily driver. My main vehicle right now is a 2012 Challenger and I just accepted a new job, and would prefer not to put 250 miles a week on it if I can help it. I know Toyota makes solid vehicles though so this Tacoma is definitely on my radar.

Anyway, I see that it's rated as a class-II (3,500 lbs max) towing machine. My Challenger sits just under 3,900 lbs and I'm wondering if it'll hurt the Tacoma to go over the specified weight. And if it would, are there any relatively cheap mods or special hitches/trailers that would help offset the weight and make it do-able?

Thanks in advance for any help, I greatly appreciate it. :)

Braking is the biggest issue. Trailer brakes will solve that.

That said, there's no way to legally increase GVWR. The car is 400 pounds over your max towing weight. Add the trailer too.

This may not be the truck for you. A V6 with factory tow package would cover that.

Tow dollys can be dangerous as hell. No trailer brakes.

If you want to pull a 2500 lb front wheel drive cracker box car on a dolly behind a 14000 lb motorhome, great. But a 3900 lb car behind a Taco, no way.
