OK so here's a scenario that popped into my pea-brain while breaking bread at dinner.

I'm going to case a HipCamp location of 800 acres in S.W. Arizona next week, actually
going to Glamp at the site and hopefully get some milky-way shots.

Anyway the location advises 4WD vehicles are best suited for the area.

The 800 acres has several 'camp' sites on it and I thought about taking the teardrop down
there when the weather cools.... current temps are close to 115-120 now... lethal.

So, when normally towing I'm using ECT and S4 on paved roads.

But what-say-ye should I turn off onto one of these dirt-roads and drive 8-10 miles that
could use 4WD traction-action. Do I turn off ECT and S4 and only run in 4WD or do I use
    a combo since I'm towing a teardrop ( 1000 pounds plus bed-gear ).

Any combination will be fine. You won’t be going fast enough towing on dirt roads to get torque converter lock in 4th anyways.

    ^I agree

Make use of 4lo to crawl your trailer over the rough bits (expected since they are calling for 4wd, no? - unless is is a sort of 'dress code' thing.). I prefer low drama to the spinning wheels, rocks flying and sh*t bouncing everywhere that seems so popular in some parts...

You'll keep the fine china and champagne flutes in one piece to sip while staring at the sky...

Yea I'm interested in what the actual terrain is, this first pass will be without the teardrop. The directions to the location warns specifically about
not turning down this road and not turning down that road so I suppose it could be a good exercise for 4WD use. It'll give me an idea how to handle
a future trip with the teardrop as well. I suppose I'll just go 4WD and ECT and standard Drive in that case. If I have to use 4Lo I'd think taking it out
of ECT would be the way to go.
