I have seen a number of posts regarding the cable for the 3rd gen being too short or almost too short when using part#3017P. The solution to a short cable is so simple. Order cable #3017S which is the factory Tacoma connector without the controller end at the other end. Simply solder or butt splice the two together (3017s and the controller end pigtail that came with your unit) and you have a super long cable.

I used my controller end cable from my Teconsha primus IQ which is the same as the P3 I am installing. My total length now is 60-62". The 3017P cable is basically the same length as the 3017s but with the controller end crimped on.

Now how do I mount the controller? I wasn't sure if I wanted the ESP P3 mount so I used a RAM cup holder mount and mated it to the bracket that came with the P3. End result was I could unplug the controller and stash the mount when not in use. Also if you only needed intermittent controller use you could borrow one from a friend and not have to drill anything.

Any photos of where the cable mounts under the dash to get to the cupholder location?
