If I took it out of the bed and put it in the trailer the only way to get it off the tongue is to put it at the wheels or behind of the trailer. Which puts a lot of weight pretty far far back and decreases stability significantly

You can have 300 lbs of weight in the bed, or 10% of 300 lbs on the hitch (if it's properly distributed in the trailer). Take your pick.

Obviously easier done in a cargo trailer, but surely there is room to store stuff in the floor of the boat (assuming it's boating-related stuff as well).

Narrowed it down to a Jayco 21mml or Jayco 19mrk. Both have good amount of room and the murphy beds function with the slides in. Will see them up close at the Hershey RV show in Sept. The two Jayco's have a weight difference of 300/400 lbs. Might opt for the lighter one at 4700lbs I'd just be missing a dinette. Looks very similar to your rig.

Just finished a 2000 mile roadtrip to NM and SW Colorado with my timberleaf pika (1800lb) teardrop. Did some light offroad stuff to find dispersed sites. All good. Even on the interstate 6th gear is not useable unless flat or downhill. Just can’t do it. 3000-3200 RPM in 5th is what it takes to get uphill. Sometimes 4th or even 3rd is necessary to keep highway speed. All in all very happy though.

2018 TRD OR MT + 23’ Airstream Flying Cloud ~6000lbs - >30,000 miles towed - coast to coast, NY to FL multiple times - crossed Sierra Nevadas, Poconos, Rockies, Blue Ridge, Bitterroot, Cascades - multiple >15% grades - perfectly capable - have video pulling trailer at 80 on Bonneville salt flats. Upgrades that make this work:
    1. KDMax Tune
    2. OME HD shocks/spring/UCA kit
    3. 2-wheel low hack
Only reason I would upgrade would be to pull a bigger trailer - then I would be tossing up a Tundra Pro with an F150 3.5 … Don’t particularly want either.

My smaller camper probably comes in at 1200 pounds. But I do load the bed of the truck with other gear and the inside rear cab
carries stuff too. I found running in ECT and 4th was the best response and was totally surprised on inclines that I had to drop to
3rd and scream at 3000+ RPMs just to maintain 40-50 mph. Now these inclines out here in Arizona ( north of Phoenix 'round Bumble Bee and beyond)
are pretty stiff, coupled with 190,000 degrees it can take a toll so I don't push it. Still I'd like to think I could run with no issues in 4th
    but can't.
