I've stayed up the last few nights reading up on towing with a third gen.
Looking to tow my 23' boat to the lake. Boat, motor, & trailer is about 4300lbs. My 02 tacoma 4cyl / 5 speed 4x4 wont get the job done (at least safely).
Looking at 2019 tacoma Trd sports & off roads. Looking at crew cabs with 6' bed & auto trans. Everything I've read says the off road has a stiffer ride (makes since) Would the stiffer ride Translate into making it a better tow rig?
Its 5 miles from the house to the lake. I cant see any need for the tacoma to have to tow the boat down the highway anytime soon.
I know it's not the perfect tow rig, but looks like it will get the job done.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

It's the other way around, sport is stiffer. I'm no expert but if you are just towing it a few miles I doubt either would make a difference.

I don't think theres much of a difference between the off road and sport in terms of towing ability. Might want to get a brake controller for that weight though. Either truck should handle that weight easily.

I tow a 4k lb fiberglass camper with a v6 sport if I had done better research I would have went with the off road for the suspension . Make sure it has a tow package. The boat ramp being slick Traction control might be helpful but check with a boat person on that .

A 2011 sport here and the ass is soft I put Firestone air bags in because of that and I did have the spring tsb done before that .

Only thing that comes to mind is I've heard guys saying on here having the rear locked is helpful with a boat on a steep and slippery launch

Rear locker is stock on the off road. Have to add it aftermarket for some $$ for the sport.

Sport has stiffer shocks and thicker sway bars. Long bed, 4DR, Pport V6 would be the best towing Tacoma in my opinion. The long wheelbase Tacos track better on the highway with a trailer.

4300 is nothing. The 4cyl can do that all day.

I only test drove the Sport once and it was much stiffer than the Off Road. Shocks are much better on the Off Road, and a much softer ride for the unbeaten path.

So I think you know my opinion on which one to get. Plus if you get stuck, the Off road will offer a better chance of getting out.

I dont tow, so won't comment there.
