V6? Relitively flat terrain? Yeah. I4 may struggle a bit. Steep hills keep stopping distance in mind, maybe wanna upgrade front brakes if regularly hauling, or install trailer brakes if possible that would be a good upgrade anyway, a brake controller.

No problem. I hauled a camper 80 miles with mine that weghed around 5k. It was all pretty flat no trailer brakes, and one brake pad was exploded (both inside pads wound up coming uncast somehow, I had replaced one and figured it was a freak event so didnt even check the other and had to plug a tire the other day and noticed the other had done the same. It may have done it after I hauled the trailer since it had been 3 months, but long story short I will never buy carquest brakes.)

Get a brake controller and the truck will be fine.

That's might light for a 21' foot what's the trailer GVW? Any thing that size will have brakes you'll need to install a controller.

I pulled 6k lbs with mine from Alaska down to Washington state. Trailer brakes are awsome and if you can swing it get airbags. I do have them and it helps the saggy ass alot. Keep your tranny temps in mind if your auto and you'll be very happy. I drove my auto like a stick, staying out of D, and my tranny generally stayed around 175ish until I hit a fair hill or started up a pass. Then it would go around 205ish degrees Fahrenheit.

I have a 2006 Tacoma Double Cab 4x4 Short Bed, automatic V6 with Tow Package and with two adults I tow a Keystone Passport 2650BH 26ft travel trailer. The trailer weighs 4960lbs unloaded and between 5600 & 5800 lbs loaded. I use an Equal-I-zer Brand 4 point weight distribution hitch with built in sway control and a Prodigy P2 brake controller. While this is quite a load for the Tacoma at no time does it feel unsafe, sway or bounce. I tow in 4th gear and at 60 mph I'm turning 2500 rpm. At inclines I drop into 3rd gear and turn 3000 rpm. My fuel mileage takes a big hit and I get between 10.5 and 11.75 mpg depending on inclines and road conditions. Not the ideal tow vehicle for a trailer this size, but it does an OK job. Just take your time and don't be in a hurry! The Tacoma is a beast!
