    I’ve owned 3 3rd gen Tacomas.
    (2017 Trd OR lb)
    (2019 Trd Sport lb)
    (2023 Trd Sport lb)

I can’t even begin to explain how much better the power delivery is, and how responsive the 4g engine/transmission setup is than the 3rd gen. It’s a night and day difference. Yes, it’s got more gears. Yes it’s got a turbo. Yes it’s a smaller engine.

The thing pulls. And you can actually pass people if you want.

This is my 20’ Hewescraft ProV (22’ overall) and it’s somewhere in the range of 3,000+ lbs on the trailer. I’ve towed this amount of weight w my 3rd gen’s and it did it… but going up Snoqualmie pass in 3rd gear absolutely screaming is not fun at all. There are a lot of people who tow with the 3rd gen and say they love it and it does just fine .. well most of them are driving on flat ground. Cuz you ask anyone who pulls over 3k lbs up big hills, and passes… knows that the 3rd gen is horrible.

This new 4g in Tow/Haul mode puts the 3g to shame IMO. The power is there. And the engine is at a much lower rpm. There was no high rev screaming. There was no sluggish gear shifts. It is a big change and I am impressed. I absolutely love it.

Also…. There are soooooo many videos online of peoples reviews of the new 2024 and EVERYONE says they’re overpriced and pieces of junk. I Completely Disagree!

I don’t know about you guys, but I bought a brand new Toyota tacoma in 2023, trd sport lb with no additional options. And it was 43,000. Msrp.

We just got our 2024 trd offroad for 43,000.

This truck is sick and we are loving every part of it. How long will it last? Not sure, but Toyota is no dummy and they will fix the issues just like they did with the 2016, and the 2005, and all the other ones.

I agree the 4th gen is a vast improvement, but your price comparison is flawed. After owning 2 3rd gen off road 4x4s, they removed a ton of features from them and kept the price closer. I sat in a 24 off road and it felt like a base model, no dual zone climate, no rear sliding window, no sonar sensors.

Yep, that little turbo 4 banger, trans, gearing set up is a marvel for towing...

I tried Tow/Haul mode with my little 1500-pound camper, and it's too much.

I have the TRD off road hybrid. I tow a 20 foot skeeter bass boat that is just over 4000 pounds when fully loaded (scale verified). Taco pulls it with ease. Very impressed with the towing.

    2024 TRD OR long bed
That is just part of the beauty of the whole line. One can get an elemental 2 door 2wd pickup, fancy 4x4 halo models, long beds some don't offer, and steps between. My only complaint in that is futility to fight because my 1999 purchase was no different than now where you have to look for what is allocated and at times it is very different across regions. It was a challenge for me to get TRD OR long bed between a base and super fancy model. The price was absolutely competitive with the alternatives.

Otherwise I'm with @1cleanFG on new powertrain. I've had 1990s through 2015 Toyotas with past V6, 5 speed manual and 6 speed automatic transmissions. My 2024 leaves prior generations screaming in pain and disappearing in the mirrors with a full load. I don't care that it sounds different or is a 4 cylinder. It works well and is so nicely quiet with improved sound system too.

At times there seems to be weird envy or jealousy with the new models that is strange. The past models were all great at their time of being new. Other products are fine too. Yesterday my wife and I did some errands early in the morning and near sunset were driving home on 4 lane road. People in current or prior gen pickups acted like they had to somehow race us. Yeah goofy people, you can get ahead or race to stoplights. I don't behave that way no matter what I'm driving.

this is a 2015 TRD Offroad with basically the bells and whistles.. $24k price increase over 9 years is bonkers.

I am not buying into the “everything is crazy expensive and it is just the way it is” mindset. The complacency is how companies continue to price gouge.

My 2016 OR, with all the bells and whistles, cost $48,000 in today's dollars. ($36g back in the day.) My new truck with way more bells and whistles (OR/Premium) cost $3,000 more. It's a helluva a better truck with great usable features.

Every time I check the inflation factor - hate to say - Toyo is pretty much on target...

Hearing all this makes me want to jump off a bridge because its nearly impossible to get ahead in the world and doesnt seem to be getting any better. And i stand by my $58k for a 4cyl midsize pickup is bonkers

That is too much. I paid $51, but you don't judge an engine by its number of cylinders. You need to drive one, maybe hitch something and tow it. This new engine produces almost the same torque at the wheels as the old V8 Tundra engine.

Within reason you have freedom to believe what you want to but that has limitations in reality or a data driven life.

Our own 2015 and our 2024 Toyotas were both automobiles but also have significant differences in specifications and other factors. The span of 9 years has a whole of change not just with products but labor, transportation and materials, and other matters that are added costs to nearly all employers. Forgetting any price gouging, the labor market is more competitive. Many firms including Toyota made sourcing changes. While price gouging has occurred, that is not the all of why things are more expensive.

Also, no one forced me to buy the 2024 Tacoma and one could look for the used 2025s you might be espousing here. There was no pressure or law that made me buy a halo model. It is easy to get TRD OR long bed with upgrade package and a few nice items for $9000 - 12,000 than the fancy stuff people often point to. Those are wonderful upgrades over past models and the competition.

My SR manual has the big 4.30 rear end from the Tundras w towing package. It may be a 4banger, but it's a stump puller 4 banger.

Ive towed this 700lb trailer about 10 times in the first 300 miles with my truck . This was the start of 2700 lbs trip of a 6200 lb tree. Its not even squatting with that much weight on the tung. You cant tell its towing besides the shake as the trailer hits road irregularities. Id get something with electric brakes. Its pretty easy to convert. More power than my Tundra.
