Chopped tailpipe and installed Dakars in preparation for the Tradesman Truck Tops shell that's coming in four weeks.

Install is easy and tough at the same time. Easy in that it is simple plug and play, tough in it takes a bit of time to run the wires through the firewall.

Pulled out this plug in the driver's side firewall and drilled a hole though it for the wires then fished the wires from behind the carpet with a coat hanger.
I have an iPhone so I don't use the Qi wireless charging so I unplugged it and put the camera button in its place.
I used a camera BeatSonic recommended from Amazon:

It blends in nicely into the front Toyota emblem.

Haven't had a chance to REALLY need it on the trail but I definitely used it a few times last weekend and that extra "pair of eyes" up front is a bonus.

I've also used it since instal in a few parking situations and again it's a bonus to have.

Another nice feature is that you can view the rear camera at anytime as well - you don't have to be in reverse.

 

I ran a front camera for about 6 months before I broke it. It's like an on board spotter. You're gonna love it.

 

How did you break it?

 

I mounted the camera on magnets so I can move it around. The wires had about 6 extra feet that I stuffed into a small canvas zippered bag. I was using the camera to look at suspension components while driving to figure out where a vibration was coming from. I backed up and caught some of the slack in the wire on the tire. The camera got pulled off the frame and got run over by the tire.

 

Ouch! But sounds like a great way to use the camera.... up until the point of running over it

 

Yeah, my rear camera got bashed by a rock too. Both replacements arrived last Friday. I hope to have them working next week.

 

Looks good. I was thinking about getting the same setup since I added the newer head unit to my truck. Was it all pretty much plug and play once you ran the firewall wire? I will need to run the wires to the head unit (on my list to do) to view there.

 

Yeah once you have the wires through it'll take you minutes to do the rest. Dash pops off and then just four bolts, the simple plug and play. And was able to reach down to unhook and put in the new switch.

 

Nice, I have a little more work then that to get it to work in my 2013 but seems like once i get that done adding this is a breeze.
