Toyo AT3’s Alternate Lug Wear

    To match stock they should actually be at 27. But even then, that wouldn’t have made any real difference in wear. These tires are known for doing what yours did. Haven’t seen hardly anyone make it past 30K with them.

    At the high pressures Ski is running, the shoulder lugs are effectively lifted off the pavement. He will have even treadwear, but greatly compromised ride and handling.

    Yes the shoulder lugs have a large squared off profile that is being forced to conform to a round shape when they meet pavement. Basically a compromise between performance and tire life.

    You can try lower pressures based on your actual corner weight instead of the OE load rating (OE door jamb label pressures are intended for loading to GVWR), but it won't reverse damage already done.

    Even at 27 psi that I keep mine at, I lift the shoulder lugs off the pavement slightly. They wear slower than the center lugs by quite a bit. Evident by the sipes (I can post a photo later). But at least at proper PSI, the handling is much better, as is the ride.
