mine have always been not the greatest on wet pavement. but.. it could be due to the added boost.. plus just the light rear ends of out trucks. I have to ease on the gas very gently..

my rears have been chunking some too actually. again, not sure if related to the above mentioned or not.

Avoid long drives on gravel. My last set of Toyo A/T 2's chipped up incredibly bad around 15,000 km's. I had a set of the older tread before this that did the did the exact same thing. The material they use is shit. I'll never buy another set.

I've included a pic right off my work truck this morning of my shitty Toyo A/T 2's. I've never had a tire wear off it's tread on the gravel so fast. BTW both sets were L/T versions which should last LONGER lol.

Not yet. Coming from the ATKO's I only noticed improvement.
I have not had this problem yet, but I will definitely be watching for this

Wow, wtf. How much weight is in the truck and is only used in or on rock roads. Ive seen a street tire do that but not an a/t.

I do some cargo hauling but it's under 5% of the time I spend driving my work truck. Even then it's never over GVWR and does not tow. The truck see's roughly 75/25 on hiway/gravel use. A very typical load for an agricultural vehicle that services a large customer base spread out over 120 miles. These tires are on a stock 2014 Ram 2500 Double Cab. The last set I had on a stock F150 Regular Cab and I had the exact same issue.

We are terminating our business with a local tire dealer over this. He's Toyo happy and refuses to do anything for us over this issue even though it has happened to multiple trucks with multiple employee's with multiple driving styles.

As an aside this has not happened on the Hankook ATm's, Cooper A/T (not sure of name), BFG A/T KO, or Goodyear Duratracs that we have bought at other shops in the area when our dealer was sold out of the size we need.

Sure gravel wears out a tire in 30,000-50,000 km's, but 15,000 is just a shit tire IMHO.

    Sorry for the rant :p.

Rotate them as often as possible, but mark my words if you do more than 5,000 Km's of gravel you'll lose the tread.

Hmm. I'm not due for a rotaion, but I think I'll do one early. I hope that'll help.

I've had Firestone Destination A/Ts and Treadwright Guard Dogs. Those behaved much better when the road is wet. I hate having to make a turn from a stop when it's been raining. I literally have to ease it like a 18 wheeler and I sometimes get honked at.

Very strange for sure....thanks for sharing. Of all of the hundreds of reviews I've read on this tire (before deciding), I've never seen anyone report anything like this. I'm hoping your experience is an isolated incident.

I think for in town use and less than 5,000 Km's of gravel/rock roads the Toyo tire will hold up okay. So if you're a city guy who see's a trail maybe 4-5 times a year I doubt you'd chunk them up much. If you're over landing or have a lot of gravel roads in you're area I heavily recommend you stay away from Toyo A/T tires. That's my experience anyways, I think Toyo formulated the tire compound for pavement a little to good and left it without the durability needed in a true A/T tire.

Just as an aside, we did try a few sets of the Toyo M55 commercial tire. They cost 300-500 dollars a tire so we only did it when there was a substantial rebate from our dealer for a few months and he recommended them for wear pattern. While it has poor traction on anything but dry pavement and mud it did hold up longer than almost any tire I've ever seen put on a light duty truck (almost 90 K before they work out). The centers eventually wear out, seemingly no matter what the pressure, before the edges because the tire was designed for a heavier truck. Like I said though, the M55 is a death trap on ice (without studs), wet roads, and anywhere else things get a bit slippery. They also have insane road noise similar to a super swamper.

Time for an update on these tires. Since installing in September, I've put just over 5000 miles on them in. I take a lot of time off in Oct & Nov for hunting and they've been mostly off pavement.

I've been very impressed with these tires is all types of conditions:

    Packed dirt/gravel roads
    Loose dirt/gravel roads
    Shale roads
    Mud (not very deep)
Roads that seemed like rocky stream beds
    10" deep snow
    Snow/ice packed roads
    Steep inclines & declines

Tread wear seems to be nice and even and they are happy at 34psi. They do have a hum at highway speeds that I wasn't expecting....but no big deal.

Just had oil change & tire rotation and treads are at 14/32.

    Overall, I'm very happy.

I regret doing the p-metric 285/70/17, especially without a swaybar. Truck just feels numb around turns. Only have 10k miles on them. Looking at them now I dont think I'll get much more than 30k miles, a far cry from the 60k mile warranty they offer.

In the rain they were great brand new, now anytime I go near the throttle they break loose. But offroad they have been really good for me. I like them more than the Nitto terra grapper's I ran in the past, but I think my next set I will try something else.

Guess I will go back to Hankook ATM/Dynapros... has to be my favorite tread of all the tires I have tried on Tacomas... I appreciate the honest negative reports on the Toyos, as I was considering them. I had Open Country AT Toyos on my '05 and they were fine. Running the Pep Boys/ Cooper Dakota ATs and they are doing good so far.
