We make Wildpeaks in Buffalo. Obviously they are made in other plants as well

Can you ask your managers why these tires are so damn hard to balance.

Most tire shops don’t know how to balance tires properly. Most even match the high point to the valve stems. But also a lot of the bigger Wildpeaks and non OE tires are made on old manual machines. Which tend to have heavier splices and push the tolerance limits. It’s a night and day different between the old manual machines and the automatic machines. Especially the VMI MAXX machines. We are currently in the middle of an expansion to add 6 or 8 new VMI MAXX machines in a new building. So we’ll be able to produce a lot more tires with a lot better quality real soon. Hopefully that will cut down on some of the Wildpeak imports you’re seeing from Sumitomo’s other plants.

We haven’t been able to produce the volume they want or expect in the plant, so I’m sure to help meet demand, they are pulling them from whatever plant they can.

Have Toyos for almost 15k miles. Good tire on the dry pavement but not that grippy on the wet pavement. I'd suspect that any AT tire would suck in the rain on smooth surface.

Yep, the Discount Tire location that installed my Wildpeaks did a poor job of balancing them. I had all kinds of shakes and vibes over 50mph. Took it to a different location and they couldn't believe how unbalanced the first place got them. Took them no time at all to do it right and it's been perfect now for almost 10k miles.

My dad can balance tires with his $80 Harbor Freight bubble balancer better than most tire shops can with their advanced machines. Weird how that works...

    15k on the AT3s.

They're not loud at all, but the wet weather and snow performance is trash. I was expecting a lot more out of these. TBH it just could be the performance of this vehicle in general.. I don't really have anything to compare to. Coming from a 2000 4Runner that performed a lot better in snow with cheap-ass AT tires.

I gotta know, what wheels are those?

I'm about to replace my Falken Wildpeaks. Seriously considering just getting the same tires again because these were darn near perfect. I almost got Toyo AT3's because like you said, made in Japan. Thanks for the info!

Just wish the side wall aggressiveness was constant across all the at3 sizes with toyo.
Japan made ones are pretty much smooth side walls whereas the USA made ones are much more pronounced.

They do perform amazingly in dirt, dry/wet pavement and survived a long icy canadian winter without any problem. I'd stick with these Toyo AT3 again, just wish the side wall was a bit more "bro'd out"

My understanding is that the SL and Euro are less aggressive on the sidewall, while the LT and Flotation have more aggressive sidewalls to go with the beefier sidewall construction. Which makes sense.... to me anyways..
