I don't know that they have improved this cracking issue. Seems to be a Toyo specialty if you believe the chatter on the internet. Don't go down that rabbit hole. Some people say not to worry about cracking if it's small and not on your sidewall, others suggest that your tires will explode at any moment and that you should get a tow to the nearest tire shop for immediate replacement or your life is at risk. Reality is somewhere in between...

My Toyo AT3’s are starting to do exactly what those AT2’s are doing, all four of them. I'm in western NY, noticed it a couple of months ago. The cracking is pretty small, most pronounced on the outside of the tread, but its happening all the way across. I have had theses tires on for just over two years, since June of 2020. They've got about 25,000 miles on them. The cracks aren't as bad as those AT2's yet, but if they get much worse in the next year I have certificates that I will use to get them replaced.

Otherwise, no complaints- I've been very happy with the these AT3's

On my gen2 i had some BFGs that did the same thing, and on the sidewall as well.

So the Simple Tire approved replacements of all four tires at no charge (very nice people). I should be getting ATIII sometime this week. Hopefully these will last a bit longer than 15k miles.

Love my Falken wildpeaks. Have installed them on several trucks. Agree they aren't the easiest to balance. The USA and Thailand sets I've owned have been amazing in the desert, wet pavement, dry pavement. In snow they are acceptable. I love them honestly, but due to the cost going up, might try the Toyo next go around.

tirerack has updated the country of origin for falken tires and now you can try to avoid the chinese tires if you want. Only problem is that I have a set of p285/70/17 that say made in china, tireracks data says they should have been made in Thailand.

Made in China is not necessarily a bad thing, not anymore. They now use manufacturing technology that in most cases exceeds what we still use in US. As long as the rubber compound is up to tire manufacturer standard, it should be on par if not better to what is produced in US or any other country, IMO.

    Still figuring it out…
These were my options as well but I went with the toyo at3. I can’t wait to see how they do in the winter, so far they do great with maybe 1000 miles on them lol, mine are made in the USA. What’s the difference between Japan and USA ones? Just the sidewall tread more aggressive on the USA?

Well what are the odds, hop on TW for the first time in a little while and up comes a thread about the two tires I was considering.

Had the stock Toyo's on my TRD Sport but only for 10K. Moved to the KO2 for 50,000 miles and loved them but couldn't swallow the cost the second time around. Went with Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 3 that I've had since 2019, and I have not had the truck correctly balanced in three years so I'm done. Unless it truly is a drivetrain issue (but then why where my BFG's fine for 50K?). Poor truck has shaken going down the highway from 60,000 miles up to 90,000 miles and the tires are looking well worn at 30K (out of the 60K mileage warranty).

Ordered a set of the Open Country AT3 just last week. I heard lots of good things about the Falken but then also heard not so good things about them more from the last year than when they were new, was a little discouraged by that. We'll see how it goes. I really hope it's just the darn tires that have been causing me headache (and perhaps techs at the local store that just haven't gotten it right, hard to say). Going with Discount Tire again as I did with my BFG's that I was very happy with each time I took it in.

If it's not tires, then I've got a gremlin to chase. Had it at an independent shop, changed brakes and rotors (they were warped) but that hasn't changed the shaking at 65-70+ and I go 75 on my daily commute to and from, so, yeah it shakes. Crossing my fingers.

This is so true, almost 90% of American companies source material from China or have it made there with their own quality standards. Really depends on how strict the QC these companies setout. I've had made in America items more trash than made in China

My Tacoma rattled at certain speeds on duratracs become they wore unevenly. I got some more road friendly Coopers on a deal back then and it cleaned up immediately. Hopefully the new tires fix it.

Aren’t KO2s and Toyo OC AT3 the same price area?

Id' say warranty them while you can. I am getting full replacement, with $0 out of pocket, not a prorated amount, and getting ATIII instead of ATII.

Got my new Toyos. Three made in USA and one in Japan. Japanese one look a little hairier and blacker, lol. Other than that nothing else stands out. I hope they're made out of same compound and will wear the same. Oh well, they're free anyway so no complaints.

There is the opinion that people would like to keep their $ in the US though, or whatever country they happen to be from.
Just wanted to throw that out there.

No time literally. We're going on a long trip tomorrow and I wanted all new tires to be safe. As long as they perform the same I don't really care about the stamp. And a fact that I'd have to go trough managers and explain why I want another tire and another fact that the warehouse is in another state, etc.. Can you see the nightmare. lol?

I've researched these 2 as well as Nokian Tyres Outpost AT, and I'm still up in the air which one to purchase.
